Help With Information for Vintage Seamaster

I was hoping somebody here could give me some info about this older Seamaster. It was my grandfather's and we found it in a drawer when he passed away. The local jeweler basically told me it is almost impossible to pinpoint a production year or get any real info about an older Omega but I thought it would be worth a shot.

Looks like it is from the 60's to me.
There are several websites on the internet that you can look up the serial number and corresponding date it was made. Although it could be cased a few years later.

Omega use to have a website that you could look up the serial number with, but I have not been able to find it recently, so I think they did away with it so they could sell extracts.

I have tried searching for an official Omega site with no results. Everything I am finding seems to give ranges of years. If I google the case# there are listings for watches that come up with the year 1959. The problem is that these watches don't have the same face as this one. If I use one of the many charts available to look up the serial# it gives me a range from 1959-1961. I would lean towards 1959 given these things, but like I said none of the 1959 watches I have seen have the same face, they are all slightly different.

You can contact Omega and get an extract of the archives. The extract contains detailed information from their archives which relates to your watch and how it left their facilities, as well as the exact production date of the watch. This service costs CHF 120.00 (VAT excl.) per extract.

Hands are late 50's... by the early 60's they were changing to straight hands. Any "dating" will likely only get you in the ballpark.

Problem is that by the 80's Omega no longer existed as it was and became just a "name brand" that eventually ended up in the Swatch camp. Nobody really documented the production history the way they should have.

You could send Swatch/Omega HQ a letter. They are more forthcoming than Rolex and may give you the information you seek if they have it.

I should have been more specific and said early 60's.
But did a little more research, the small medallion was introduced in 1959, and Larry is correct. They moved to stick hands in 1962.
So, you are looking at 1959 to 1961 for this watch.

Defiantly a beauty and a keeper being your grandfather's. I have my father's that my mom bought as a wedding gift in 1969 and you can see they had moved to stick hands by then.
