its totally an aesthetics matter at this stage. the only caveat is that i was advised i could end up having to replace or repair in like, 10 - 25yrs. big spread there so i told him i'd get the estimates from the orthos and think about it.

$28k estimate to address an overbite, with no guarantees of long term success....

Way expensive... But can't say for sure without seeing patient in question.

See a board certified orthodontist and get another opinion.

Also, guarantees are tough in dentistry. You can't control anything after the patient walks out the door. Compliance is a huge issue. Also in some ortho cases the cause of the malocclusion is never being addressed (airway issues, myofunctional habits, etc)... So yes they can straighten the teeth, but if the mouth breathing or tongue posture is never corrected, it will likely relapse.

Sounds high also, but dental work is expensive.

I had braces as a teen and the orthodontist pulled all my teeth together to fill a gap instead of getting a bridge/crown. In my 40’s discovered this was the cause of migraines I was getting and aligning my teeth in a way that caused them to grind and they were starting wear down. I’m about 2 years into a Invisalign and now I have a gap for an implant that will be placed soon and I’m getting a couple of veneers. Still way less than 28k. I think Invisalign is 6k and then less than 10k for the rest.

Get multiple opinions from different Dentists/orthodontists is all I can say. This stuff is usually considered cosmetic so all out of pocket.
Cheers,
Corey

Your dentist, if competent, should be able to fully explain your treatment so that you fully understand the condition of your mouth, why he is making these treatment recommendations and what to expect long term. This may or may not be exactly what you need (I don't know your issues). What we cannot do for you is change your values. This fee may be completely justified, if you have an experienced clinician who really knows what he's doing. Many young dentists coming out of school today are arriving on the scene with a significant debt and they all expect to be country club members and have a nice watch or two (he he). It takes years, 15 or more, of experience and continued education to understand the complexity of the stomatognathic system so whatever you do don't shop price. It will not save you money by doing it twice. Good luck.

You need to pay 28k for that?! Isn't that covered by your health insurance?

Work insurance covers $1k

Government none for this work unless I couldn't eat without it or was in terrible pain.

This dental procedure is elective. it's just a recommendation - albeit a very important one.

The only issue I have is the no guarantee clause. If I can spend on a watch, I can certainly spend on my health but I don't like the non answer answers to my questions or why there's such a spread between quotes.
