Awesome - almost the same story for me. I'm wearing the same watch as I type this...almost the same vintage! Mine's been serviced once (last year) and has literally been around the world, multiple times. I've broken the clasp, broken the crown, and chipped the crystal. Mine still shows numerous war wounds, but overall looks almost as good as it was when I bought it.

Which reminds me, I remember having a difficult time choosing which ref to buy because the AD at the time had all of them - available in the case - at a discount!

Great Story

I too have the same GMT II. Love the watch as well as the scratches. It's about as close as one can get to a "one and done' watch.

I bought mine in 2010 from Goldsmiths on 0% finance , I had the cash but thought it was a good offer to use their money.
I still have it in my safe but havent worn it in years

Good to see the journey - I still have my 2007 GMTc - partner wears it mainly - never been serviced by me just pressure - and still performs to spec. Keep thinking I should perhaps get it done !

i bought mine in 2009. it's the birth watch of my son. so it's going to him when the time comes.

mine still looks good as new and dont think it will look vintage even 10 years from now.

really cant go wrong with black. and it will be remembered as the father modern gmt.

it's a keeper

Great post.

I love my 116710. Never gave the GMT a second thought as I was always a Sub guy. Had quite a few references. I bought my 116710 from a good friend and it quickly became my favorite ceramic bezeled reference of any professional model.

I also had my PCL brushed. Best decision besides buying the watch in the first place.

It is still a great watch. It was the first GMT Master II I bought. I'm hoping they bring back the LN for the GMT Master lineup.

Btw, I was trying to compare the pictures of your polished watch to mine and can't really tell the difference. I guess that's the beauty of the beefier cases. When the time comes I feel like I'll authorize the poslish, but agree that sharp edges are a must.

That’s awesome! My Favorite Rolex. Shame they have become so expensive that it’s not worth it for me to get one.

Enjoy

Thank you for this report - it's one of the most interesting threads on TRF front page in 2022.

I agree with your sentiments on never polishing; I recently overpaid a grey dealer to get a new example of a watch I wanted because so many used examples are "polished for retail" and I just can't stand it.

Here's to another 15!

Old pics

So apparently back in the day I was normal and photographed many things, but NOT my watch! So it is really hard to find old pics of my watch. I can only find one from 2008 in the snow (posing), and one from 2009 when I was holding my newborn son. Sentimental photos of a bygone era.

Stretch and lume

Some stretch on bracelet after 15 years of wear, actually makes if more comfortable to wear. Nicely broken in. And honestly, I prefer the old green lume.

What a great adventure NIHO

And a great story,
watches meant to be worn, especially Rolex. Nowdays most buyers "keep the value" instead of enjoying the watch.

Great GMT reference and a great watch to be delivered with tons of memories to the next generation when time comes.

That's an amazing review, congrats on 15 years! ..and you already have the full attention from the player haters, like myc ritz

It really is a gorgeous piece, too bad they don't make those clean bezels anymore, not to mention the simple green GMT hand and brushed center links. Really great.

ROLEX 116710LN - 15 year review!

Great review! I bought mine in 2010 for $5600 and wore it for the first time on my wedding day. It was my first Rolex and it’s the timepiece that brought me to TRF which played a big part in introducing me to the world of watch collecting.

Nice story, OP. Glad to see it's given you many years of service. Bold move on the bracelet, braver than me.

116710LN is a wonderful watch. I’ve owned it twice but moved it for “something better” then later realizing I should of just kept the darn thing. I’ve always wanted it on a jubilee, so maybe I’ll get lucky soon and get a 126710 BLNR one day. Continue wearing it in good health OP.

Great review OP.

I recently bought one used in nearly new condition as a stop gap until a Pepsi GMT is allocated to me (perhaps wishful thinking). If the Pepsi GMT does come in, I don't think I will part with the LN, it's so versatile and a fine looking watch!

Very enjoyable.

I like a brushed PCL. I don't mind scratches on PCLs, but the greasy fingermarks on them are just gross.
