David Bowie

Just listened to "Low" very mediocre album IMHO.

Listening to "Hunky Dory" infinitely more engaging album.

Very nice. I like the krautrock sound on Low that Eno nicked from working with members of Harmonia and Cluster. (Heroes is a bit better though, especially the title track.) But I LOVE Hunky Dory. What a great voice, and what a great album that is.

I just looked at my Spotify breakdown for the year and my top five songs were all unlistenable kids songs. But my top artist, as in previous years, was still The Beatles.

You stumped me with the mention of that track, Nick. I had to go to the Tube to listen to it. I am a life-long Tull fan but don't listen to the first three albums that much. I always think 'Benefit' is a bit of a 'transitional' album for Tull as the last of the early Tull before Aqualung takes a Quantum leap forward and moves them into their next phase as a very polished coherent prog-rock/art-rock act.

This slow, stately album seems to fit today’s stupefyingly hot weather.

My favourite song here is ‘Andalucia’.

Produced by Chris Thomas, who got his start in 1968 producing ‘Happiness Is A Warm Gun’ and ‘Birthday’ for The Beatles.

Benefit is my favorite Got to see them rock hard once in the hey days at a packed Cobo Hall, Detroit around 1972. Never will forget how the opened. They came out disquised wearing long white shop coats setting up their instruments. No one knew it was actually them until they suddenly broke out in song.

Any Tom Waits fans here? Like with most everything music, I go through spells of enjoying a few things and then forgetting about them for a long time, but for some reason I have come back round to Waits, and been especially loving Swordfish Trombones. Everything about it: the songs, the production, the arrangements, and not least the amazing guitar playing of Marc Ribot.

If you are a fan, what is your favourite Waits album? The only other one I have enjoyed this much is Rain Dogs, but I’m ready for a deeper dive.
