This was surprisingly good....only because I had low expectations from an Aramark run establishment (Ahwahnee hotel Yosemite)20201107_181240.jpg

How was this? I've always been intrigued but stick to Dom and Cristal.

Watch looks great, btw!

Edit: also, I won't tell your wife you drank with the watch and not her.

N8 you so funny... My Wife enjoyed with her Lady Vice President! Ha Ha!

It was good but different than the Crystal and Dom we favor too. Got a couple of bottles to try for Special "Champagneable Events". It had a combination of three grapes Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Meunier that can give it a tase of confected fruit, occasionally with slightly smoky flavors.

Cristal is typically a blend of 40% Chardonnay and 60% Pinot Noir (without skin) grapes.

Dom Pérignon is always an assemblage of pinot noir and Chardonnay grapes.

Get a bottle and let me know what you think. We prefer Crystal and Dom.

Sorry, couldn't resist. I'll definitely pick up a bottle a report back.

Great watch for the wife, too. Mine has the same.

I have recently discovered fortified wines, was never a wine drinker in the past. Tried a local made port wine here in NZ and spurred the desire to try others. We like Penfolds Tawny port line, currently Penfolds Father Grand Tawny 10yr old. Also bought Penfolds Grandfather, but have not opened it yet.

Cheers, Tim

Oh wow, surprising to hear that. Last I was there the food and wine recommendations were amazing. Hope to get back soon!

Regarding wine: I have been loving the commerative “46 year anniversary” bottle of Caymus.

Red wine and Kare-Kareng ox tail

It's all about health, happiness & family. The rest are just necessary inconveniences we have to deal with.

Opened quite a few great bottles this month, a 14 Scarecrow, 04 Hundred Acre Fortification among others.

Opened this gem tonight from Temecula, what a dream wine to drink. It reminds me of a 07 Dominus. Great wine.

I have always regarded Fortified wines as one of the greatest gifts in the wine spectrum. We have been making spectacular Fortifieds here in Australia for 100 years and I make it my mission in life to drink them as much as possible.

I find it difficult to relate to the new PC names. I love my Muscats, Tokays and Ports - both Tawny and Vintage. The Penfolds Club Reserve Tawny is one of the best value Tawneys around. The 'Grandfather' line is also lovely but a bit pricey these days.
Australian Sherries are also great buying, particularly the top quality dry styles such as the Fino and Amontillado, although I don't mind a sweet Sherry also.

Since the PRC has started punishing us (through our wine exports) for calling them out on their bad behaviour, our wine industry will be looking for new markets and I would encourage our friends in the democratic world to have a close look at Australian Fortified Wines as a value purchase.

Great people and one of my favorite producers in Temecula! I have a few bottles of the 15 Syrah in the fridge waiting to be opened.

How was the cab??

This was a blend but it drank very well. About 30 minutes of air in the glass and it went from hints of flowers and dark cherry essence to a more subtle blue fruit type of taste. It had a lot of power to it as well. We went back up last week and had a long chat with Steve. If you get the chance to pick up some of his 2017 Cabernet Reserve I'd do it. It drinks really well too.

I picked up a couple of the 15 Syrahs as well, lots of flavor and tonge dancing magic in the 15, a little more so than the 14s.

This looks glorious!

Love Kirkland wines. Won a blind wine tasting comp with some colleagues on a Kirkland grenache.

A nice drop of red from the renowned Margaret River region of Western Australia. Named after a cave nearby where the 40,000 yo skeleton of a Tasmanian Devil were found, the winery has a strong focus on the terroir of the area and the varieties that are most suited to it.
I thought this wine had a lot of potential for cellaring for maybe another 5 years as it was too young and a bit 'raw' at 2 years.
