Smiley change of name???

<----Can the name of this smiliey be changed to :wavey: or  instead of bye? It looks like it's waving hi and bye. Just a thought.

What is a smilie? It is a picture used to connote an action or feeling.
Whatever word is used for a smilie is not the word to precisely or solely express the action or feeling a smilie represents.
For example can be used to show that someone is feeling tired or sleepy, not purely or necessarily even at all an expression of boredom. The words of the smilies are really only shortcut words which you write between two ':'s. Thus the shorthand way of creating the waving smilie is ':by_:' where _ is the letter 'e'.
For years people have been using the shortcut words such as 'bye' instead of having to use the mouse to click on the smile in the smilies panel. When doing a quick message you don't even see the smilie panel at all.
The other thing is that if the code 'bye' is changed to 'wave' or something else, then every smilie to date will no longer be shown instead you will see the word 'bye' surrounded by two ":".
So it isn't a problem, but if I did as you suggest it would only create another problem of all past 's becoming ': bye :' and losing their smilie picture altogether to be just a word surrounded by :'s.
