Patek Calatrava Ref. 3514
Hi,
I am seeking your opinion on the vintage Patek Calatrava 3514. Is it a good piece to collect in terms of its movement (caliber 27-460M), rarity, and design? I see a wide range of pricing for this model? What is a reasonable price for a mint piece today? Thanks in advance for your input. |

You should post a link to a photo from an internet dealer, or just a photo, to make it easy for posters to view and comment.

Thanks for your suggestion.
This is the link to show the watch in question. By the way, this picture belongs to someone who posted it in the internet. TQVM! http://i.imgur.com/lJVjPvZ.jpg |

As an automatic with a date in a water resistant case, it checks my boxes. The only argument against would be size: at 34mm, it's on the small side by today's standard, but right at the small threshold for my personal taste.
As for rarity and desirability, I cannot speak to that. Seems to me prices for vintage with minor complications (auto, date) haven't moved up or down in a long time. Perhaps there is a vintage Patek advisor out there? Vintage as in old watch, not as in old advisor...;) |

You are right that it is very personal when comes to case size. Some with big wrists are happy with their 34mm pieces and some with small wrists prefer bigger case size watches even though they may look over-sized on their wrists :-) |

Nice piece , great movement
Condition will make significant impact on price .
These watches are not highly desired so prices are soft ( relatively speaking) Go for it if you like it- you are not going to make $$ from it unless you steal it from the seller- |

Haha! It won't be easy to steal a cheap watch, let alone a Patek!
Anyway, there are only a few models that are highly desired and their prices are sky-high. Thankfully, there are models with "softer prices" that make owning a Patek easier :-) Truly, condition is the key determinant on the price. |

I forgot to mention a factor that seems more critical with vintage Patek collectors than other collectors: An original dial in mint condition that has not been refinished.
