Another comp: 5396g Tiffany vs 5550p

5550P.

Tiffany? Do you remove the car dealer's decal off the car when you drive it off the lot? I sometimes see people wearing their suits or winter coats with a department store label on the sleeve by the buttons. I wonder what the correct etiquette is. Should I stop them and tell them that it is only branding from the store and even though it is sewed on, it needs to be removed.

It's more than a regular 5396 with a Tiffany stamp. It's a 100 piece limited edition model with a special dial. Check it out, it is completely gorgeous.

I think the black dial LE Tiffany 5396 will become a collectors edition. There is a review of the watch on the hodinkerpe website. It is unique with Breuget numerals.

The 5550P is a rare watch too and we don't know how many Patek made or will make. But it is a platinum PC vs. a white gold AC. So I think the 5550P will be a better choice.

If you can get both, that would be ideal.

I like the 5396 tif, as the matching subdial eliminates the "bullseye" look of the regular model. I'm just not a fan of the bullseye.

RussW,

I saw John Mayer's well written piece on Hodinkee about that 5396. It's a nice watch. But I simply detest the Tiffany label on the watch. I'd rather not see that.

There are a lot of people here who actually like the Tiffany label on the watch. So both sides are represented on the forum. Like some people who love Kate Upton while others think she is fat.

Fair enough, to each their own. I too would prefer not to have the co branding on a regular production watch, but would make an exception for that limited edition watch.

For me the 5396 is just perfect for everyday wear. I really like it and would buy one if I could.

One really needs both. Only ever saw one black 5396 sold in the secondary market and the premium was huge.

I am a bit biased to the 5396G

I know many are not fans of the co-branding but this watch in person is spectacular.

Never understood this tiffany hype.

If they want advertising on my watch they should pay me or give me a big discount.

The hype seems simple enough, any Patek in production with a Tiffany stamped dial has a dial that is more rare than the same watch without the stamp.

Whether you think that rarity is worth anything is a different question but undoubtedly they're more rare to find.

Let's keep it in context boys. The Patek & Tiffany relationship goes back to 1851. Tiffany has an admirable history of its own and undoubtedly played a large role in pateks early success in the US market.

That and the watch is stunning makes it a very tough decision. The 5550 is special in its own right. This is purely for the buyer to chose.
