Minnesota Twins-Best record in MLB

I had to post it, because it likely won't last long and I can't remember the last time the Twins had the majors best record this late in the season. Go Twins!

I can't remember either, but it was probably the last time they had the best contact hitter in baseball...one Rodney Cline Carew.

Steve (lol-x) expressed interest in MLB recently in another post, but hadn't picked a team. My subtle attempt to sway his budding interest and allegiance.

One of my all time favorites. He and Kirby Puckett.

First Major league game I ever went to was at the old Met in 1976. Twins hosting the Tigers. Believe Carew hit second, and Lyman Bostock led off. Detroit's pitcher that day was a young guy, with some wild hair, and some rather strange mannerisms. After a few innings of watching him, I turned to my dad and said, "I've never seen anyone like this. Do they intentionally keep these types of guys off television?" My dad just laughed and said he'd never seen anyone like this before either. Of course, it was Mark Fidrych.

He was truly fun to watch, especially as he talked to the ball prior to pitching to a new batter.

I was glad to see them beat the Yankees on the road but it doesn’t look so good today

No, it doesn't. It dates back to when they were the Washington Senators. Damn Yankees!

Now is the time for Twins to make a run with Kluber out.

Kluber is a great player, and sorry Cleveland lost him. But this happens to all teams over a period of time. You are right, they need to get ahead and stay ahead while he recuperates. I hope he is back this season.

I would be fine with the Padres rising, Paul! Good luck with everything you have going on. It will be fine.

Red Sox nation.
Home of the 2018 WORLD CHAMPIONS Boston Red Sox.

Actually, also home to the 2019 Super Bowl Champions New England Patriots.
And soon to be 2019 Stanley Cup Champions Boston Bruins.

All hail the Tampa Bay Rays, who after tonight, will be best in MLB. It was fun while it lasted (until Sunday).

It's so nice to be able to watch good Twins baseball again. Good contact hitters, power (and when's the last time you said that about our line up), great fielding, decent pen. If we just had a proper 2nd pitcher it'd truly be a great team.

Note: Gibby, Jake O and Perez are doing well, but they're not a group I'd want heading into Yankee stadium as either the 2nd or 3rd pitcher in a playoff series.

I attended a Twins game at Target Field a few years ago before which several legendary players and coaches were honored. I had tickets in the Legends Club seating and while on a trip to the concession stands, I saw Tony Oliva, Tom Kelly and Frank Viola. They were chatting with fans and posing for selfies with them. Growing up a Twins fan, it was a wonderful experience.

They are holding serve over Cleveland, who lost today. A chance to move to a 7.5 game lead tonight in LA. I never thought they would be .667 and 16 games over .500 this late into the season.

It's still early, but even a .500 record from here on out would get them to 90 wins. Quite a turnaround.

Yes, gone too soon. Though I don’t recall the cause.

Your correct. He passed away at 46 from a stroke. He developed Glaucoma that not only caused him to retire early, but also go blind in both eyes. He was definitely exciting to watch. A friend of mine was his roommate in AAA with the Twins.

Yes, he lost the sight in one eye overnight, and had to retire in his prime. One thing about Kirby--he ran every routine grounder he hit full speed to first base, every time. No taking a play off with that guy. Really my all-time favorite. Bryon Buxton reminds me of him in center field.

Kirby Puckett remains one of the most beloved Twins in team history. His teammates loved him, as did the fans. He is the all-time team leader in career hits, runs and total bases. I will always remember him hitting a walk-off homer in the 11th inning of Game 6 in the 1991 World Series to force Game 7, which they won. He's a true legend in Minnesota.

They get .32 rain in LA, and the grounds crew can't make the field playable even though rain ended over an hour ago. SMH! PPD, and have to play tomorrow afternoon instead. Only the 10th time a game has been postponed at Angel Stadium since it opened in 1966.

But, is he? I thought he lost a lot of that love after the sexual abuse (if I remember correctly) allegations came out against him? My friend loved him when we were kids but lost a lot of respect for him when that all came out. It may have even been after he died?

I'm a Brewer fan but we had the Twins A-ball team here for many years before they left town so guys like Chuck Knoblauch, Pat Mahomes (Chiefs' QB's dad) played here way back when I was a kid.
