Pan Am TV Series

Anybody watch Pan AM? It ran on ABC in 2011-2012 for just a single season (14 episodes) and is now available to stream for free on Amazon Prime. It was a period piece focusing on the stewardesses and pilots of Pan AM Airways in the 1960's.

Naturally as a BLRO owner I was intrigued. Caught the first episode out of curiosity. I'm old enough to have flown on Pan Am, and they are a large part of the GMT Master's history, so of course I'd give it a look. I do love historical fiction when it gives us a look at the styles and attitudes of an era. Social mores, clothes, cars, and planes.

Not a bad look back, some semi-interesting story lines. Like the CIA using the stweardesses to gather information and make drops. The first episode had a few quick shots of the GMT - only glimpses really - but even less than I expected. Not a great series overall, but interesting enough and the price is right: free if you're an Amazon Prime member.

I was a bit disappointed when it was canned. Wasn't the most riveting show but a decent watch and at least a bit different from the usual on the major channels these days. I'd say if it had been picked up by Amazon or Netflix to start they might have had more runway to work with on story line and PG+ content.

It was one of those shows that was not terrific but still was compelling. It hooked me and I binge-watched the whole thing in three days.

Apparently the CIA did indeed use Pan Am stewardesses as spies, but it still makes me think of Zoolander and how male models were the world's best assassins.
