Why buy a Dial for a Watch You don’t have? I just don’t see much fun in buying a Dial to sit in the safe,But to each his own.

Well, it's not NOS for one thing. The minute track shows it has been installed in a watch.

That said, it does look quite nice, and showing it was mounted helps ease the knee-jerk that it could be a reproduction...

9 grand? Damn. I guess that's reasonable?

Does he have a Mk V red 1680 dial in similar condition for MUCH less money?

If all is original I’d imgagine that it’s more than a fair price considering what it adds to a non period correct watch

The picture isn't pin-sharp but I am inclined to think that this is a correct Mark IV DRSD dial.

It's not NOS.

If correct, it would be worth most to someone with a period correct DRSD that has been fitted with a later, white text service dial. Fitting a later watch with a double red dial would not increase its value so much, for one would simply have created a great white fitted with an older, incorrect dial and worth no more than the sum of its parts.

Proceed with caution. These are worth faking and the quality will grow only better. I wouldn't part with my money unless I'd had better photos or (always so much better) the watch under my own loupe.

Sounds like a reasonable deal if you need it. As investment it might be okey even though I find it odd. Not necessarily easy to sell for retail when you want to realize it.

Might be worth as a project though. A lot of nice examples around with later dial. I would personally only consider buying it if I had, or knew of, a watch that needed it.

I've seen a LOT of repro dials and this appears to be genuine to me.

If it's a fake, it is far and away, the best one ever. There are a few key tells that I always look for and this dial passes every "acid" test I have.

But as mentioned above, I wouldn't buy it unless I needed it.

It looks authentic to me. Even though I don’t intentionally collect Rolex parts, I do have many of them and understand why it appeals to some.

suggesting a complete watch as opposed to only a dial, you can get a matte example 16800 for around 9k...at least it can be enjoyed.

Why would you buy a dial without the watch for it to be in a safe?

If you don't intend to sell it, how is it an investment?
