Big wrist and dress watches

I have a 7'' + circumference wrist and most dress watches i've tried looked like a dime on my hand.

Any recommendations on dress watches for wrist size like mine?

thanks!

IWC Portugeuse line of watches. The IWC Portofinos with 8-day power reserve are also much bigger and would fit a 7+" wrist quite well.

I think if your wrist is exactly 7", then any 40mm dress watch with a 47-49mm lug-to-lug measurement would fit proportionately.

However, if you like the bigger dress watch look on your wrist, then I think IWC caters to that style quite well. I've always liked their watches but my favorite IWC models tend to be too big for my 6.5" wrists.

I recently sold a Portugueser that was too big for my 6.5 inch wrist.

A. Lange & Söhne Datograph, it's the size of a hockey puck.

I like the watches in the IWC lineup. I own a Pilots Chronograph on metal and a Spitfire on alligator. I have large wrists and the watches work great.

I have a 7.5 inch wrist. Had a datejust 41. Was too small. Got a datejust 2 and it’s perfect. The dj41 is actually 39.5mm while the datejust 2 is 41.2mm.

Second the portugese (think it's called Portugesier now).

Overpriced at retail, but can be bought mint for around $8000

Yeah i've tried the Portofonio and it really felt ... cheap?

I would also echo the recommendation of the IWC Portuguese line. If your budget is higher, both Breguet and Vacheron Constantin offer 40mm dress watches with fairly thin bezels and large, fairly plain faces that wear larger than they are, and 40mm is already pretty large for a dress watch.

Nah. That’s just crazy talk. Those date justs are classics. They’d look good on anyone. Also, no one cares about watches except us enthusiasts nowadays. So you can where almost whatever you want and it’ll be fine.

Also, the Portofino was a suggestion because it’s rekativeky affordable but if you think it seems cheap then definitely look at my original suggestion (among the other suggestions from everyone in this thread) of the IWC Portuegeser watches. They’re beautiful but pricey. If I could wear one on my wrist I would’ve got one a while back.

Also, I echo the sentiment that if your budget is above the IWC then check out the A. Lange and Sohne Thin 40mm or 1815 Up/Down. If you want Swiss then check out the Vacheron Constantin Patrimony 40mm.

An actual budget would be useful.
Is pre-owned out of the running?

How old are you? A datejust with fluted diamond dial gets my most complements even over my DD. And being rhodium dial I think it makes it even younger looking. I’m 36. So I might just be a old fart lol

IWC or Glashutte Original makes 41mm and larger dress watches.
Lange as well, more expensive.

And I do agree the datejust is for older men. But the DJ41 and especially the DJii with the thicker bezel and larger size and the weight is definitely made for the younger crowd. I owned the DJ41 and couldn’t believe how much different in weight and on the wrist the DJll was. The DJll was definitely made with the younger buyer in mind. The dj41 is for those who wanted a 36 but in a lager size. That being said I also have owned a few JLC watches. And if you want something more modern and dressy look at that brand. They practically own the market on larger nice dress watches that are below the big 3. They have even made movements for them at one point.

Well , i guess the datejust is abit out of date for me.. The Portugueser and 1815 looks great! Now waiting to go over to an AD and try them out. Good suggestions!

I'm 26 this year. Well just that the only people i see with the datejust era Rolexes are probably double my age.

Speaking of that i saw Frederique Constant has pretty decent looking dress watches. Anyone tried them before? Though it seems to be on the cheaper side of the scale though. NOt sure of the quality

Then look at the likes of Chopard L.U.C. and Gerard-Perregaux 1966 or Vintage 1945. Also add Parmigiani Tonda too, and if budget stretch does occur, then H Moser & Cie.
In regard to the above mention of Frederique Constant, just bear in mind their gold offerings are plated, not solid.

I agree but I would say they are rocking a DJ36. A datejust ll is a completely different beast. And I don’t mean a DJ41. A DJll. If you can ever find one check it out. I think they were designed for the younger crowd in mind. Too bad they are not made anymore. Was just discontinued this year I believe.

If you can stretch to IWC Portuguese annual calendar that is an exquisite watch, especially with blue dial.

The PC is even nicer but double the price.

Portofino isn’t their best reference.

Hm... $8K budget, if you search for a while, you can probably find a used IWC Portugueser, but it'd be totally worth it.

The suggestion from earlier today about the Tonda as well as H. Moser & Cie are also good suggestions since their dress watches are a bit more contemporary (i.e. bigger).

As for Frederique Constant, I am a fan of their watches. They have come a long way since their inception in the late 80's/early 90's.
