Which PATEK 5712?

Him,
I am new to the forum. I have two choices in buying a used 5712 from the grey market both are from reputable sellers and both have the same asking price and both complete with papers & box :

1. 2008 excellent condition but never been serviced. It has the GENEVA SEAL which some collectors find it desirable because Patek started using their own seal in 2009 . Never serviced but nothing to fix.
2. 2012 near mint and serviced last year by Patek SERVICE CENTER.

Which of the two offers would you choose? Thank you in advance for your input

I’d probably go for the newer one with a more recent service.

Do you mean you’d prefer the older one if it’s a Tiffany dial? I think I’ve read elsewhere that other people also give this dial a preference. Why is that? For me personally I wouldn’t want to have some other brand’s logo on the dial of my watch, especially if it’s something as special as a Patek!

on a 5712 i do not like the T dial. On other watches im more indifferent as its not huge thing either way. Some dials it looks worse.

They are more rare and hold value better since tiffany does not discount. On a non hot watch you lose more money with a T dial because you paid more to acquire it than you could from a regular AD. complicated pieces in particular that sell way under list at AD's.

Well the cooperation between Patek and Tiffany goes back over 150 years. The tiffany dials are Pateks sold at the Tiffany boutique. I have the pleasure of owning the 5712 1R with T dial and find the positioning of the tiffany stamp to be perfect for the 5712. I now have the 5712 1a without the tiffany dial, as I prefer wearing SS watches, but that is one dial I wouldn't mind having back in my collection.

That’s a good point I guess it depends on the positioning and the size of the Tiffany text, it might be ok.

its totally subjective. The 5712 is asymmetrical to begin with so for me the added text is too much.

Personally i think it looks great on a 5711, 5980, 5726, and the aquanauts. I still probably wouldn't buy a watch just because of it though.

I like the T dial but on simpler models like the 5711 and 5167, on other models it becomes too much like doing homework.
