New member. Time to get back into Rolex!⅞

Hey everyone. Coming to you from Chattanooga TN. Great forum. Lots of information.

When I was a bit younger, I had a few high end things: cars, watches (Rolex's and others), home, the usual. However, for the past years I have been focusing on my business and the expensive stuff went to the wayside.

Well, now the business is sold and it's time to have some fun! I've been reading up on these crazy Rolex stock shortages and skyhigh grey pricing. Kinda weird to read about. I remember the AD experience as a fun, exciting event where the sales staff were there for you. Not the other way around.

So I have begun my search for my next Rolex. The grey market kinda scares me because I haven't been studying it long enough to really know who to trust. The AD's sound like a real pain in the ass. My plan is to start here with my local AD. Then is I have to I'll head to Atlanta to visit the stores down there.

I'm really looking forward to walking into the stores as a bearded 40 something guy wearing my cargo shorts, no watch, driving my 4 door sedan and see who will work with me. I'll hopefully be able to weed through the BS AD sales staff and find someone who will wants to sell me a watch (just like I did for my Italian car). It's great fun putting "I dont think you can afford anything in here" types it their place.

I fully understand my approach may leave me without a new watch from an AD. I don't "need" a Rolex from them. I'm sure I'll be able to find what I want from someone somewhere.

Thanks again everyone for you contrabutions here on the forum. Great site for sure.

JM

The ADs that I have dealt with do not at all consider or care what you are dressed like.

Welcome and good luck on the watch hunt. If you know what you want then skip the AD route unless you have a connection or referral. It is a crapshoot every time you walk into an AD that is new without a contact. Use the search function on TRF and lookup the Trusted Sellers here and visit the web sites. Pick what you want and have it the next day by 1030 am. A lot of people will tell you the journey is half the fun. Not for me. The watch is all the fun and the lead up is usually a pain even if everything goes well. I am looking forward to an Incoming post.

Welcome to the forum. Congrats on having some time and resources to reunite with Rolex.

I’m not sure how much fun you’ll have with AD Salestrons who are dismissive. Unless you have a plan to buy out the shop, the clueless ones could care less.

But if that floats your boat, don’t poke the staff too sharply - they have the ultimate trump card. Many ADs now have armed security in-store. All they need to do is shriek and drop to the floor - you get a free ride to the hoosegow.

On using alternative channels, there are some trusted TRF sellers near you who are safe bets once you decide on a model. That way you can see and feel the watch before buying. There are others across the US who can ship overnight if you don’t need the personal touch before buying. Check out the Who’s Who section and you’ll be able to see who they are.

Lol. That's too bad I was thinking a quick poke is all some of these reps needed.

Thanks for the information. I do really enjiy putting snobby staff through their paces.

I see your in GA. Any AD's you would recommend to see first?

Also, if you have any trusted sellers on here you have had good luck with, I'd live to hear your experience

Thanks again

I don't understand the desire or need to antigonize sales staff or anyone else for that matter. I have always treated my AD with respect as has my wife with one she has used. As a result we could get any Rolex watch we would want, and have. I could recommend them to you but they know that the people I send don't play games.

Ultimately you are absolutely correct. I do agree. I guess all these stories of elitist AD personal have me worked up. I always seek out a good working relationship. However, when it comes to luxury items, I am not interested in acting differently then I usually do.

I understand that AD staff must have to put up with a kinds of lookers. But there is no way I will ever pay to play to get the item I want. If buying 25k-50k worth of stuff I don't want is the price of entry. Then I'm out. Hopefully I can find a place where I get what I want and the store and it's employees make a profit.

If they Rolex of today is like the Harley of the past and getting into pissing matches of how much I paid over sticker is considered a good thing, its probably not for me.
