As a follow up....very interesting

So I started this thread a few days ago....

https://www.rolexforums.com/showthre...2#post10889432

I ended up buying a NIB, my name on the card, 1392 from a dealer.
Dealer received it from Panerai.
Paperwork, numbers matched, etc....all say model 1392.

The watch is clearly an 02392....no ecru lume/markers, and solid case back.
The thing I guess I attribute this to is, it is one of the very first 02392’s ...10 of 1500. So still labeled, papered, & boxed as a 1392, but definitely an 02392.
I’ve heard about, and have seen some website snafus, issues, etc...on the Panerai website but I’m new to Panerai...is this a normal occurrence?

Nice watch! Up to you whether to accept a different model than what you ordered..... personally, I prefer the non-ecru lume and feel of steep against the wrist, but YMMV.

Thank you! I actually really like it, and the case back and lume are all good! I’ve decided to keep it, but just wondering if anyone else had experienced or heard of this happening before?
I actually don’t know to think....cool, I’ve got a rare occurrence that happened...or an ...Oh SH**, I need to send this back as a mistake

It’s a great reference Richard and I’m glad your happy with it

What does the dealer have to say? Did they notice this and tell you about it prior to delivery or did you find out on your own?

Hey Brian. When I asked, the dealer said they confirmed matching serial #’s, etc...
Then they made phone calls etc, and just got the same explanation i eluded to....first batch/run of the 0392, just paperwork, etc...labeled as 1392 still. I’m still not quite sure what to make of it… A rare anomaly… Or a huge mistake that should be fixed? I will probably do a little research myself this coming week, and just call Panerai direct

Please update this post Richard. Sounds strange, and I'm curious to hear what they have to say.

Regardless, glad to see you enjoy the watch and nice to see you enjoying the brand

Congratulations, Richard! My V series 973 is also 00010/1500. It's my opinion that Panerai's website seems to be in a bit of a transition mode! The movement information, P.900 or OPXXXIV on the 42mm pieces is left blank on some models. It seems that the Richemont vs In-House caliber naming has not been sorted out.

Just got off the phone with Panerai, they took all my info and I sent photos. They’re looking into it and are reaching back out to me in the next day or two.

The plot thickens ... are you going to send the watch in Richard?

This is all very strange.

EDIT: I see you’re sending it in

OP - As with a warranty service request, I would ask and expect Panerai to send you a Service Return Kit with a prepaid label. I will have everything you need to to securely return your watch.

Also my recommendation is to take as many pictures of your time piece as you can. This way you are covered in case of them accidentally scratching it.
