60's Submariner
Good afternoon, i have what i believe is a 1960's submariner with an aftermarket oyster bracelet.
The serial number on the case is 763466,, but it looks like there could be a worn out#1 before the 7. The other side of the case reads "registered design" and underneath that it says "5513. My question is: For me to get a close to original oyster bracelet for this watch, what should i be looking for?. I see particular numbers on the bracelets itself plus a number stamped on some end pieces. Also some are riveted and some are not. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you |

I think a suitable bracelet would be a 7206 or a 9315 with 280 or 380 end links

The 5513 1964-1989 the very early 5513 had ref 7336 bracelet with 382 end-links later 1980 plus models had the ref 9315 or 93150 with 580 end-links.

If it was sold in the US, it might have come with a USA-made rivet bracelet by C&I, but I don't recommend them. It's quite difficult to get the end-links to fit well. A 7206 rivet bracelet is superior, although also more expensive.

Not correct info. The 60s models would have a 7206 or a USA-made C&I riveted bracelet. After that, in the early 70s, it would’ve been a 9315, which transitioned into a 93150 in the later 70s.

Dial and insert are from the 1980s or later, not the 1960s. They could be service parts, but it's hard to say without more info. Maybe there is a digit missing at the end, not the beginning of the serial number. What does the inside of the case-back say?

By this, I assume you are saying that the watch is confirmed to be from the 1960s, but has service parts from the early 2000s? I'm only asking because in your initial post you seemed a bit uncertain about exactly when the watch was manufactured. If it is from the 1960s, it will be noted inside the case-back.

With the insert, dial, hands, and who knows what else replaced (crystal? crown? movement parts?) replaced, there doesn’t seem much sense in sourcing a (expensive) period-correct bracelet. It wouldn’t be the one that came with the watch, and would look out of place, as the watch most decidedly looks like an updated service parts watch as it is.

It would have to be a 60's submariner, no 80's submariner would have a 6 digit. If the 1 is in front of the 7 would be mid to late 60's.
Either way the watch is completely serviced out and would look strange with a rivet bracelet. Also a genuine 7206 will run you 2k+. I suggest you just get a 93150 which would match the rest of the watch. |
