Rolex 1680

Hi guys! I would like to buy this 1680 from 1977. What do you think of this piece? Jimmy

The top crown guard looks asymmetrical and shorter comparing the bottom one. It would bother me. Maybe it’s the photo but could be overpolishing. I like the dial. How’s the asking price?

I agree about the crown guard polishing, and I'd add that the insert doesn't look correct.

That insert looks odd. Particularly the "3" in 30. Not sure what it's from. Maybe aftermarket?

Everyone has their own opinion about pricing, just factor in the information you receive and decide for yourself.

It seems quite expensive for the replacement parts it has.

You can get much better examples for much cheaper prices.

Here is an example that sold here, for 11k with original MK1 dial, MK3 insert, hands, crown etc.

Perhaps Wing - But personally for me not a handsome 1680, as very white un-patinated dial plots but with darker hands esp second hand, missing pip, badly oxidised hands and service (white not brushed silver) datewheel, and hard edge plexi, pink/mauve (not dark red) service reverser wheels and most disquieting to me....poss lume edge retouching reluming on hour markers esp 9 and top of 6.

Really? I must be getting grumpy (er) and picky (er) in my old age. I see an over-polished Sub (those poor crown guards) with a service dial and a fake insert. And sometimes the cost/price is irrelevant, especially for a mediocre (at best) timepiece. I wouldn't want this watch at any price.

I don't boil a watch down to its cost-per-part to establish it's overall value. That's for parts dealers, and guys looking to flip for a profit. As a watch lover/hobbyist, I just try to determine if I'd be happy with the way this vintage Rolex looks on my wrist AND its originality and authenticity. In this case, that's an emphatic "no."

Exactly this! Maybe that’s why I’m getting old and can’t find the right 5513 at a fair price for me…

Over polished and asymmetrical crown guards definitely a hard pass for me.

As established earlier, it’s a fake insert and probably put on recently.
