Most collectible 5512

Hi all,

Which version of the 5512 would you say is most collectible?

Sorry, I should have given more details. I meant within the pcg range, which version is most collectible? Thanks!

Those are early and except thw square crown guard version they would be called pcg. After that most 4-liners. Probably with two color text first. Tulip crowns are fun. And so on.. Condition will be crucial and beautiful tropcial dials are always hot.

Thanks! I know it’s impossible to say without seeing actual pics but if you had to choose, would you choose a (1) tropical tulip but with one lume slightly chipped and some minor scratches on the dial or (2) a newer and more boring 5512 with perfect condition dial but without chapter ring? Hmm....

Difficult to say with no pics. I have a tulip which I love.

My vote goes out for a four-liner tulip crown version. I had one in the past (1961 case back) and they aren't very common at all.

This was my '67. Not overly rare, but I liked it. Someone else gets to enjoy it now.

I have this watch and a Question: Lume radium or tritium?

I have this watch safely stored after it's "spa" week with Phillip Ridley a couple years ago. I do have a question for the experts out there. Q: Is the lume on this 1961 watch radium or tritium. And, is the lume on the hands different since this was a transition time?

Thank you for your insight.

Chris

Usually if it says "SWISS" it's radium.

"Like the Newman watch, McQueen's Submariner has a fascinating history, one that combines elements from two of his most famous movies, The Great Escape and The Towering Inferno, and even involves a stuntman. He bought the watch in the mid-1960s, when it would have cost around $250, and also owned another model, a ref. 5512 Submariner from 1967 that brought $234,000 at an Antiquorum auction in 2009."

JP- Is the crystal on your tulip crown original to the watch? An original dome?
