Christian Klings

As I explore the various corners of the internet during this era of social isolation, I’ve discovered a watchmaker by the name of Christian Klings. Perhaps some of you are aware of him. He is based about an hour outside of Dresden, and is heavily inspired by the likes of George Daniels. I’m an absolute sucker for his design aesthetic, and the quality of his execution seems remarkable to my eyes.

I thought I’d share some photos of his work that I shamelessly pilfered off the internet:

He is so underrated.. And I am not even sure if he is still in this watchmaking game at all?

I was very fortunate to play with a mate’s CK

But too bad I didn’t really know CK works when I first saw this watch

I think his Tourbillon No.7 is one of the coolest looking Tourbillons I’ve ever seen.

He recently presented a new watch I thought, so it would seem he’s still working. I understood total production (lifetime) is maybe 50 or so watches.

There is something about these watches that is just raw passion, almost crazy passion.

The dial on that first one and then the case on the second one sure look a lot like Urban Jurgensen.

Those are classic engine turned dial designs. They harken back to the French watchmaker Lepine from the 1700s, popularized by Breguet. Many watchmakers since then have adopted a similar design, including Urban Jurgensen.
