Full PM Availability/Discounts
Hello All,
Over the past year I’ve been fairly absent in monitoring prices/state of ADs with other things in life becoming more important. I am now in the market for one of two pieces and was surprised at the price increase over the last year or so. DD 40 YG and Full YG Sub with Blue bezel are the two I would entertain and be happy with. I recall both models being in the mid-upper 20s just a year ago and most ADs would offer 15-20% off full PM pieces at the time bringing them to around 30. I’m now seeing both watches secondary closer to retail. My question is, what is a fair price for a full PM DD40 or YG Sub in today’s market? Are ADs offering discounts on PM still? Or is secondary still the way to go, if so, what are y’all seeing for actual pricing? Thank you! |

On the last day of the month (like today), quarter, or year... I would target 15% off, with the realistic expectation of getting 10%. Others may disagree or shoot for more. The dealer has $14K+ of margin on those. They should be willing to come down off MSRP.

Different market and different world. Retail pretty much across the board now. Unless you luck into a smaller market AD with PM inventory. Just look at what the trusted sellers here on TRF are selling them for, that should give you all the insight you need. If they aren't discounting them, AD's won't either.
I picked up a YG DD40 last summer somewhere between 10-15% off, one year later no way. Most AD's cant even keep them in stock. |

First you would have to find a dealer with that inventory (which is not easy) and second they would likely need to be in a smaller market because any major market AD will be able to move both of the the watches mentioned by the OP without needing to discount with little effort. End of quarter, month or year irrelevant. My AD got a YG Sub and it was gone within a day, same thing happens with DD40's. As for Daytona's, forget it.

Feel free to look at the classifieds to see what those models are going for on the secondary market.
If they're above MSRP, then you will pay less at the AD...if available. If below MSRP, you can expect to pay more. |

2. Yes, smaller family owned stores will be more willing to discount. 3. Timing ALWAYS matters. Anyone in sales or who owns a business knows financial reporting is based on months, quarters, and years. |

These are mass produced, shiny, luxury watches.
Always ask for a discount. Start at 20% |

I think the only PM (other than ladies watches) that you could get any type of discount on right now would be platinum. Little chance on any YG, WG, RG.

Despite the massive markup over gold I'd still shoot for platinum if I ever got a PM Rolex just like I did when I got a Calatrava. |

Yeah, pretty much. The pool of people willing to spend Platimunm prices is far smaller than YG/WG. |

The guys saying ask for a 15%+ discount on a DD40 or a 126618LB are guys that have not been shopping for a full gold watch or never in the market for one quoting you those discounts - Because NO AD these days are offering anywhere near that. All I buy now is gold watches and I'm telling you from recent experience the prices I'm seeing and I've been talking to a crapload of dealers from HK, Dubai, the US and Europe as I get my watches from everywhere and anywhere I can get a deal.
They are totally off their pricing guides. Big fat ZERO discount on full gold subs and DD40s now. Thats the new normal. Many models of DD40s and full gold subs are selling ABOVE msrp at the grays dealers. |

Compare rolex gold model prices with gold AP’s and pateks (the other 2 hot brands). Gold Rolex is cheap as chips compared with them. Prices going up IMO

So crazy how the market has changed. I was considering a YG Blue or Black Sub a few months back and they were $24-26k used or $28k new - now they've all jumped up considerably. I'd personally wait it out - the tide has to change soon.

i think so too. at first i thought it was a bubble and i think it was actually a natural bubble around 2018/start of 2019 when everything blew up but then these brands started doing their part in keeping the madness going, it's definitely artificial at this point and i can only see it getting worse
