Tipping has gotten out of hand (USA)

For dine in, I would tip, amount depends on the service, and how big of a mess the kids has left behind.

For take out, I don't tip. I pay for the food, they hand me the bag, that's the end of the story.

Having said that, I would tip (more) in both cases if I get extra items, like free drinks, extra refill, etc.

They may think it’s free but they’re still paying for it. Usually in the form of extra taxes on the estate.
