Smoking cessation update

Just a quick update on my smoking cessation. I had my last cigarette on March 22, the day before Easter Sunday. Anyone thinking about quitting really should talk to their doctor about Champix.

Awesome Al. I quit quite a few years ago and I still miss it. The key is simply to refuse to ever light another one. Good luck.

Congratulations on the quitting smoking. This will be the biggest gift you've ever given yourself (even beats the Rolex ).

I'm glad you've experienced no problems with the Chantix. It is proving to be a possibly more harmful drug than what was first thought. (See attached link)

http://quitsmokingtestimonials.blogs...-mood-anc.html

If anyone is thinking about taking this drug to stop smoking please talk it over with your primary care physician.

Hang in there and it gets easier as time goes on. I've been off of the cigarettes 20 years this year.

Keep it up Al.
One of my colleagues had a mild heart attack last Friday. Today he's undergoing a bypass operation. 25 years of chimney work. :
We can only hope for the best for him...

I had my last cigarette 8 years ago - everyone I talked to said that I'd crave cigarettes for the rest of my life. They were wrong - it goes away, and you feel better. Takes a while, but you'll be happier, and those that love you will be as well, for the rest of your life. Congratulations on your success! It gets easier and easier....

I quit in '94. Worked in an office full of smokers at the time. It was easy as pie once I had made up my mind.

Soon you'll be wondering why you ever started.

Congrats... a good incentive (other than reducing your chance of getting heart disease, having a stroke, developing cancer...) is to buy yourself one Rolex for every year you abstain.

or month...
or week? I dunno

Al,

I take my hat off to you for stopping. I'm still a pack a day person. It's an evil habit, but I just don't seem to have the backbone to say 'no' and go on the nicotine patches.

I will one day, I hope...........

Good luck to you......

Congrats, Al. Keep up the good work.

It really does get easier over time. I've been off them for about 5 years now and only once missed them and that was recently. But sure as hell not enough to light one up.

My hat is off to anyone who can quit smoking. I see people every day who have a horrible quality of life due to the effects of cigarette smoking. It's so sad.

I was this close this morning. I called some hotline and they sent some Commit lozenges afew months ago. I tried the patch, just made me itchy all night, the gum did nothing for me. I popped a lozenge when I woke up and I didn't give it a fair amount of time. So I went out and bought a pack....9 bucks is costly, but I think in a week or so I'll be serious and ready...I hope

Nagging won't help you stop. I stopped right before my ex wife and I got married. Best thing I ever did with her help. I was more of a habitual smoker than a nicotine smoker. I changed my habits to keep me away from things that would trigger my urge to smoke. It worked! I haven't felt better and it has been about 20 years now. Now I don't even think about it.

Good job Al. I used Chantix and it worked. Smoke free for 7 months after 37 years of smoking. Don't keep me from my coffee though
