Daytona Temptation
Hi all
I popped into my local AD yesterday and saw the 116519LN in the flesh for the first time. I was blown away by the 'Steel and Black' dial and the Oysterflex bracelet. About three years ago I set myself a target collection of: Speedy, Sea Dweller, Royal Oak, and a Nautilus. I have the Speedy, the Dweller, and the Royal Oak, and have started the search for a 5980 or 5990. When the 116500 came along, it was too good to resist so that upset my plans a little. I've now had it 18 months and love it, but have accepted that it will likely have to go to help fund the Patek when I eventually find one. But of course this could take 3 or 4 years to get one from an AD. So my dilemma is, should I swap the 116500 for the 116519 (cost to change of c.£6k ish) and enjoy it, knowing that if a PP comes up sooner than expected, it may have to go and I'd lose money on it, but on the other hand, if the PP does take the time I think it will, then I may be able to afford to keep the Daytona. Does anyone who has seen or owned both a 116500 and a 116519LN have a view? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

If it's a keeper, then yes. However, no with a future flip plan. By a rubber b and keep your eye on the prize.

I'd add the 519 in place of the Patek and keep the SS 500 as well.

Keep the 500 and install the OF straps!

I wouldn't.
Chances are 519 can be purchased at great discount in a few years by looking at the history. |

As some above I’d hold tight!
The low to no discount on PM models is only off the back of the lack of SS supply, mid last year I was quoted 17% on the WG Daytona. PM will be the first to take the hit if/when this bubble bursts however demand for the 116500 will continue for a while so maybe hold out and either get the PP if/when the call comes or if it doesn’t once the PM discounts kick in again. |

The release of the ceramic Daytona changed everything. Stainless Daytonas now trade at $18-20k minimum as Rolex drastically changes direction, choking supply of sports models, especially the Daytona. The 116519LN currently sells on the grey market for $27.5k new, $24.5k preowned. It retails for $28.8k, so these are minimally discounted at the moment (if you can find one). I find it highly unlikely for prices to fall below these levels, as many considering a SS model would instead opt to purchase this watch. In person, the 116519LN is the most beautiful modern Daytona, hands down (IMO, of course). The Rolex community has been waiting years for a steel dial Daytona with black panda subdials with a black bezel, reminiscent of the 6263. I say get the 116519LN. The only caveat to that being, you won't ever want to sell it. |

By history let's use the chocolate rose gold daytona as an example, there was a waiting list at the beginning, but early last year it is not difficult to buy at more than 20% discount. Last year in the grey market the OF WG daytona was sold above msrp in many cases, now it can be done with small discount alright. I am not 100% of course so that's why I said "chances are". |

I respectfully think you are underestimating the appeal of this watch coupled with the current hysteria of the Daytona market. |

Great piece, I was really tempted to go for that one. Hopefully that purchase moved you up the waitlist a few places |

I own both.
The 519LN has a heft, look and feel that is quite different than the 500c. The WG has a luster that SS does not. The OF bracelet needs to be sized by carefully choosing the right "lettered" straps. It is not the same as removing or adding links from a ss bracelet. The ss bracelet wears a little looser. The OF rubber has a nice snug fit. The lume looks slightly different on a white face v the steel grey face. Th 519LN is beautiful under any lighting and flies under the radar. Slightly different case on the 519LN. Didn't know till I read that on TRF. Now that I bought the WG -- I don't wear the ss dayc any longer. Both ss and wg dayonas are great. WG is just a bit greater I think. |

Are the endlinks attached to the case like the older Daytona strap models?
Love the look of the Oysterflex - just curious if anyone has tried a leather strap or attempted to fit a bracelet.

I wouldn't swap it. 116500 I think has the edge with the bracelet. But damn the steel dial on the white Daytonas look darn good in person for sure.
Value wise the stainless will hold and appreciate, the PM models will never gain/only depreciate unless there's an unusual short run like some of the SARUs. If you go for the WG Daytona, it's because you love the watch and don't plan to sell.....make sure you buy it right. |

I really hate these threads about the 116519LN... Its just so ugly, makes me wanna puke, I wouldn't be caught dead wearing that thing, no class, no one should ever consider buying this dog! The price should drop rapidly!! ;)

Rolex grey gold is just unbelievable. I am waiting for a grey gold Sub with a blue sunburst dial and a 3235 caliber.
Anyway back to the Dayto... Imho rubber is not as good as metal bracelet. I mean in time it splits. Even if it is Rolex, it is still rubber. Go for the full white gold Dayto ! I know it is not the same price but it will keep its value better.

Let the 500 go for the 5990, or 80 might be better if you can't get on lists.
