watchwinders.com - buyer beware!

Just wanted to share with fellow forum members my very negative experience with this company recently.

Bought a Benson 2 watch carbon fibre winder from them as Christmas present for somebody. It arrived promptly (good), looks great (good)...and was dead on arrival (bad).

I contacted them to tell them, sent them video to show them, and asked them to ship a replacement and at same time collect the DOA product (not unreasonable). They said no, i would have to ship it back for assessment and repair (bad) in accordance with the terms and conditions, and they would reimburse a maximum of 40 EUR for return shipping costs if there was found to be a problem.

The problems then got worse: the shipping address is a PO BOX in the Netherlands and from the UK i was unable to find a company that would ship to an overseas PO BOX address (UPS, DHL, Royal Mail, various online websites all said they could not ship to PO BOX address overseas).

I asked watchwinders.com for physical shipping address which they refused to provide. After much to and fro over email over a number of weeks, they then said I was no longer entitled to a refund and only repair as the refund window had been exceeded - even though the time lapse was due in no small part to delays in responses.

So I now have a non-working £400 watchwinder that I am unable to use, and unable to send back to them for repair - and if I was i would be out of pocket since the cheapest insured shipping price I could find to a non PO address was £55 (and they would refund only 40EUR).

I've had to dispute the transaction with my credit card company, get the item assessed by an independent specialist to confirm it is faulty, and have generally just had a load of hassle with it that i could do without and would not expect when buying an expensive item direct from the manufacturer - yes, watchwinders.com are the manufacturer for Bensons, so the fact that they wouldn't just take it back and send me a new one is even more disconcerting.

Use with caution - their prices may be a bit cheaper but my experience has been that it was very much a false economy given the hassle and the fact that they won't stand behind their product.
