The watch needs to be mechanical and resistant to the energy impulses of anti-zombie weapons. That second part excludes AP, PP, and the like. A good tool watch is a must.
You have put some thought into this!

I have to be honest, I have the G-Shock Riseman. It has all the bells and whistles that I could ever want when I'm skiing but I've never used them once. It's a pain in the ass to maneuver through the menu.

I bought it because (a) the G-Shock is universally known to be one of the toughest watches and (b) I liked the way it looked.

I've had this model for 7 years and it looks brand new and has never needed a battery or failed to charge.
They are really good watches for this type of stuff. No argument there. They weren't for me when I looked, but I think they are a good all purpose field watch.

The context of Paul's thread assumes that high tech options will lose value over time due to an apocalypse, which tend to shift technology back towards the bronze age, or at least the wild west. Given the low tech is better constraint, I think mechanical watches have a greater utility in the apocalypse, assuming you intend to live through it.

I had zombie apocalypse as an exercise in a proposal writing seminar. The scenario requires you to define what all the constraints are throughout the period of performance, in addition to meeting contract performance objectives. Dwindling resources is a difficult constraint to propose to, as you can't use your customary processes to execute the contract. The proposal you write for year one has to still work in year eight, after attrition and resource deprivation have gutted your processes.

You'd be surprised how many people struggled with this scenario.

I expect my Anniversary Seadweller will make a fine zombie apocalypse watch when I get it.

Let's hope the apocalypse holds off until this summer.

The other good thing about a Rolex is that you could beat a zombie's brains in with one, especially a DSSD. You couldn't do that with a G-Shock; I have a Mudmaster too and while it's a great watch, it wouldn't be much of an attack tool against a zombie. I'm gonna change my mind and use my D-Blue instead.

I still have reservations over a vampire apocalypse though. That said, I wonder if I could reason with a vampire and persuade him (preferably her) to limit their consumption of my blood to a pint or so a week. I need to give this more thought

Didn't James Bond use his watch as a knuckle duster once? The D-Blue would definitely leave a mark.

You can't trust vampires Paul, they'll turn on you in a flash. Better off staying indoors at night.

Hmmm, the D-Blue needs more thought too as it could actually damage my hand if I use it as Bond, James Bond, did (trying to be careful as I don't want thread closed). I think the Sub might be a better option after all.

Indoors is a safer bet and vamps can't come in unless they're invited. Unless it's their house. I'd be safe in the UK but my condo in Singapore is rented. What if my landlord turns into a vampire? Should I take him out now, return to the UK or just buy my condo? Dang, what's a boy supposed to do?

And what would you do if a zombie monkey tried stealing your apple?

Buy the condo. I hear real estate is a good investment there. Kill two birds with one stone.

The zombie monkey conjures an image of Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom. These zombie monkeys can be pretty unpredictable.

I'd have to sell both of all both of our major internal organs to be able to afford my condo here! It's horrifically expensive. Property is on a downer at the moment so there's 'bargains' to be had. if you have the disposable cash.

I think that same monkey might come after you if he's turned. Your card is marked, mate. He'll be mad for you!

Just hope there is no electromagnetic pulse, or all your Casio's will be toast.

NOMOS Sundial. Never have to worry about batteries, EMPS, or service. Only concern may be nuclear winter where you can't see the sun.

Always wanted one and now on checking they do a London version

Do you ever wear it or does it stay hanging in the car (just in case of an apocalypse)

Those who remain will still need to be punctual. Maybe not for a tee time, but other needs will inevitably arise.

Coincidentally it's the same size as my ring finger so I wear it as a ring occasionally. Otherwise it's on my key ring.
