Guess the independent

Without reverse lookup on the images, are you able to make a guess who is this independent watchmaker? How do you find the finishing of this movement?

For the sharp eyes, this movement is based on the Longines 30L (an example below).

Bingo! Here is a piece from SJX on this watchmaker whose name is Qin Gan.

https://watchesbysjx.com/2019/03/qin...atchmaker.html

There is very little online info on him. Not too sure how to buy his watches.

It's great to see China watchmakers producing high horology. Asia could very easily be the next hotbed for mechanical timepiece manufacturing, and dare we say challenge Swiss in pricing too. Remember history when the USA was producing pocket watches that very much rivaled Swiss brands.

The Sleeping Dragon has awoken....

PS: Love the hand-painted dial within the SJX link.

Lovely, and so happy to see the Middle Kingdom embracing the artisan side of watchmaking. That's quite a history to lean into!

Does he have a website? I'd love to learn more.

It looks a little like RRCC! Do let us know if there’s a website for him.

Can't find contact details, yet he's created some very nice pieces. Nice examples online to see.

In Asia, it is an honor to invest years just to make the rice for sushi. If done well with proper training and access to high-precision tooling, Asia could indeed create RRCC movement quality and cases.

Am not a fan of copies, yet we know Panerai is extremely easy to make and Patek copies are very impressive, especially for the asking price. But what if Asia decided to create their own high horology brand(s)?

The Sleeping Dragon is awake.

I wonder if his initial run in steel is completed….$9k for that level of work is amazing.

I manage to find an IG account "qingan.official" that has his contact details (contact@qgwatch.com). I can't tell 100% if that is him. I can't find his other online presence anyway so will try this way first.

I have attempted to write an email in Chinese (in my elementary standard but best effort lol) to him, shall see where this leads. Finger crossed!

PS. Pls exercise caution for online transactions. Do not send money over without due diligence.

This "ink painting" is top notched, and more impressive given it's miniature. Also fell in love with the 三 六 九 十二 calligraphy.

It is. The initial steel run was cheaper, just wasn’t sure if that was all sold out.

I contacted him last January, and he mentioned othe 3rd generation of Pastorale is available for orders this December. The price for white gold version is in the range 20-30k. There may be no steel version, and he does not decide yet.

Happy hunting.

An update:

I received a reply from his customer service mailbox. The 3rd gen Pastorale will be opened for reservation in Dec 2022. It will be in either WG or RG and the movement is currently still in the design stage. There are currently 50+ on the waiting list and once your order is confirmed, you have to wait 1 to 2 years for the watch delivery. The tentative price (subject to confirmation in Dec 2022) is RMB 182,000 and you will need to place a 50% deposit to secure an order.

I have added myself to the waiting list. They will update me on the watch again closer to the release date.

I remember trying to find his contact info a while back and no luck, then stumbled across the IG page. Good to hear he's still going at it. Hope to see more watchmakers pop up in Asia and other regions outside of Europe.

Does anyone know where he's located btw?
