I Wish I Had Patience
Two years ago I started seriously looking at Rolex. My wife and I had come far enough along in our careers and done really well with savings so I knew the time was right. We are very frugal and at the time my wife was not 100% on board so I waited.
Fast forward to now when the market is far different and nothing is to be found without an extensive relationship with an AD and my wife is on board. I sit looking at this Rolex catelog every night and my wife knows I love the BLRO or BLNR. Finally I got a text on a GMT becoming available on a neighboring island and gasped because I thought it was a Batman; but no, it was the lighting reflecting off the bezel on a LN. I convinced the wife that this was it, she let me order and a friend of ours that owns several Rolex’s and is essentially a father figure asked if I was sure that’s what I wanted. He knew how much I loved his coke. I canceled the order because I knew just like my wife knew I was settling. Unlike most here, this may be my only major watch purchase or could be the first of many, only time will tell. Being frugal it’s obvious we won’t spend over MSRP but I have got to say, being a man with no patience; this is going to be a tough Christmas! Sorry for the long post but it’s the only way to make myself feel better right now! |

Hang in there and it'll pay off nicely. I'm sure you know exactly where to look if you cave and want to buy one above msrp. Best of luck.

Wait for what you want. I prefer the LN, but that's just me.

Oh yes, I have watched David’s BLNR’s climb from 10.5 to 13 over the last month and it drives me crazy. Hind sight is always perfect and I would have pulled the trigger had I known how hard this would actually be.

The scenario with the BLNR could well be just around the corner for the LN with the way things are going.
Just me being the Devil here ....

Never settle for a watch, Rolex or not.
But fact is, patience has little to do with it...if you don't have a particularly strong relationship with a good AD you might as well hope for the lottery. I have a fairly decent relationship with my AD, having purchased 6 Rolex/Tudor pieces from them in the last 3 years. Just yesterday I was advised that while I could opt to purchase the 126711 CHNR, the catch is I have to purchase a Tudor from their Classic or Prince lineup with a value of $4k or more in order to "qualify" for the purchase. And the funny thing is they don't even have it in stock... At that total price I could go to any grey dealers in my city TODAY and get one right away. So while some would say patience is a virtue, I am not sure I can agree on this day and age. Sent from my Mi MIX 2S using Tapatalk |

I’ve thought about this as well lol! I think what has me drawn to the BLNR is my company colors and what a major part it has played in where I am today. The BLRO is special as I see it as a representation of the colors for both mine and my wife’s background, having served and her still currently serving; both are really meaningful to me and I’d think about it every time I look at my wrist.

LN is the perfect choice for a first/only watch. I have both the LN and BLRO and i can tell you i wouldn't have the BLRO if i didn't already have the other. Even though i prefer the BLRO in the context of a collection, its not a great one and only watch imo.
BLRO is kind of loud and an LN goes with absolutely everything and you can wear it anywhere. IMO a colored bezel GMT is kind of like the Hulk in that regard. Love the watch but no way i would have it w/o a classic black dial/black bezel watch first.

I’m obviously not going to change your mind nor is it my intention, but isn’t it interesting to see how many others echoed the sentiment of the LN vs the BLNR? But you know what you want and that’s half the battle. And the BLNR will look nuts next to the BMW Roundel!
Best of luck! |

Order of precedence for me is:
BLRO LN BLNR That's the order in which I would spend my money, no setting. Be patient, it will pay off. Sent using Note 8 |

You absolutely did the right thing!
Don’t spend 9k to settle! After one week you will go back to the Rolex catalogue to look a the blnr and BLRO. Wait but get what you want and then it will be real prize If your friend has many rolexes then he must have a good relationship with an AD, see if he can help you there Good luck

I agree not to settle......buuuuut, I think you should get the LN. It's a great, versatile watch. Also, buying at retail, you wouldn't lose very much at all if you decide not to keep it, and it's worth a few hundred for the "test drive".
Being it is your first, there is a chance your tastes might change anyways..,grab it. |

I don't think the LN is settling and I am a big believer in one in the hand is worth two or ten somewhere else. This is a very simple case of pay for the BLNR, buy the LN which is available or wait an undetermined amount of time. If you could find a BLNR at an AD you would pay msrp plus tax. You are not too far off what David or another Trusted Seller will do a complete pre-owned example of the watch for. For me, life is too short, and if I have the funds and have done the research to understand the market I would pay or move on. Good luck. Go get your watch.

A few thoughts:
a) nice BMW. Fellow Bimmer fan. 2) don't settle iii) have you considered pre-owned? D) with the stock market not doing so well and the odds of a national or even international recession increasing every day (think China, Brexit, etc.) that will certainly hurt the Rolex market and prices may settle back down Best of luck.

Don't ever settle. It's the holiday season so of course prices/availability will adjust on inventory in hand. Wait it out a bit as others have said. You'll be glad you did.
