Patek PCCs are special and absolute mechanical marvels, but the 5170p brings together the creativity and mechanical genius of Patek in a more simple manner. It has everything I want in a dress watch from Patek. A beautiful in-house movement visible through the clear case back. The most stunning blue-to-black dial. The understated yet elegant baguette diamond markers. A simple but thoughtful and perfectly-sized case. And, it’s in platinum. No days, months or years. No moon phase. Just wind it, set it, and go. Winding it daily brings a sense of connectedness with the watch. It’s necessary and enjoyable. It is my favorite Patek.
There is nothing to add.
I agree.

I strolled into an AD today who carries Rolex, Patek and some others. Nothing really to see in the Rolex room. I mentioned the 5170P and it turns out they had "just gotten one in" and it was in the Patek case. That is an absolutely stunning watch. Holy crap! That may be the most beautiful watch I've ever seen. I'm picturing the conversation with my wife where I propose selling the platinum Daytona, daily wearing a SS Daytona (if my name ever comes up), and having the 5170P for more special occasions. It's doubtful I'll ever go there, but man is that a gorgeous piece!

Been wearing the 5170P for 3 days now. I don’t even notice the diamonds!!

I even wear it with t-shirt, shorts and sneakers. No issues. It is such a versatile watch.

All the purists who have been criticizing the diamonds, the blue dial, the dimensions, proportions, etc, I invite you to take a second look, in the flesh.

I'm a "non diamond" type of guy BUT do own the 5170P... I feel compelled to say it's the diamond hour markers that make this P version so so special... they add that little touch of magic to the watch and they complement the blue dial so perfectly. If you don't want diamonds at all there are all the other 5170 versions... it's the diamonds that make the P so special.

It's the subtlety that makes it so magic.

It seems that the prices at grey dealers have stabilized around the 80k USD mark. This piece also seems not to be that much available at AD‘s any longer.

Is this a two year run and done? We’ll see soon enough.

Sincerely,
A 5170p owner

We will see soon, a lovely piece and I always regret not being able to go ahead. London Salon had one for sale on Friday.

Come on man.....it's ok seriously. If you want meet up with me and I'll show you some honest vintage pieces and none of that "character" distracts from the watch or value one bit. Wear in good health and enjoy it, it's IMO one of the best Pateks in the world....certainly their best chrono in my eyes. Love mine to death.

No offense but if the London Salon had the watch available that clearly speaks to the lack of demand for the piece. I have seen it in person and it is really nice but IMO not worth anywhere close to list price and they are readily available at many ADs. I know we are sometimes way too focused on value retention but often times the fact of the matter is many pieces are not forever pieces and if you stay in this hobby long enough there is always something else we are on the hunt for and in order to make that new purchase happen you sometimes have to let pieces go. If this is not a forever piece in one’s collection they will take a huge haircut if they ever have to sell to get into another watch. Just my 2cents (If someone outside the UK is interested they should contact them and take advantage of the weak British pound and have it shipped over for the 20% VAT refund)

No offence taken, I was suggesting they are readily obtainable. Whether something is worth list price is rather difficult to judge unless you are basing value solely on resale - outside of the stupid bubble we are currently experiencing I would suggest very few watches are actually worth list price! As you have said there is 20% VAT and also 100% markup in the price!

I sold mine recently and the loss was about 12%. The watch is still incredibly easy to source.
It’s a beauty though and if they were trading down I would consider reacquiring at some point. But I think the price is stabilizing nicely and dit think the trend will be further price degradation.

Opinion on 5170P?

5170 path it’s been quite clear , on all metals , they all end up at the same place. Unfortunate because I love the reference. Specially 5170G white dial and 5170P

If it’s a keeper, who cares!?!? And really, who knows what the future holds. Some of today’s most coveted were scorned and readily available at first.

Exactly. Patience is . All they need to do is discontinue the reference and suddenly everyone wants a piece.

Hard to argue truth. The 5170p is so good. I'm never letting mine go.
