Lusting for gold

I'm currently pretty happy with my collection of 8 pieces. The theme of collection is probably diversification, don't like to have overlapping watches in style or complication.

I have long been lusting to add something in rose gold. Looking at Lange 1 Daymatic, Patek 5035R and GMT CHNR TT mostly. Previously also DD40.

The watches I wear most are Grand Seiko SBGR061, JLC Master Compressor Chronograph 2 and DaytonaC.

The WG Brequet worldtimer is my dress watch and I love the complication so it stays. The SD4K is not getting much wrist time unless its summer, a little too much presence or thickness, but every other detail is perfect and it is my wife's favourite. Wearing the Explorer II 16570 when traveling to less safe countries and as beater plus sentimental value so it stays.

Just got the Bulgari Octo Finissimo in Ti this summer when in Italy. It wears absolutely great on the wrist, has excellent movement that can be seen thru display caseback. What stops this from being my daily is the lack of date and 30m WR.

The Vacheron Constantin Overseas 42040 37mm is the odd one in collection perhaps. I just like the military style numbers, it is super-thin, it has a date and is in perfect condition. Will get a leather strap for this one and hopefully it will get more use.

So if you had patience to read all that you see my dilemma, I don't really wear all the watches but also don't want to trade any to get what I want. Do not want to spend the money for a full gold watch and maximum cash outlay would be in the vicinity of a TT GMT CHNR MSRP.

What do you suggest I do to get some rose gold in the collection? Buy a Rolex TT? Consolidate a few SS and get a full gold Rolex or Lange? Did you regret purging SS for PM?

Lusting for gold

I sold my Rolex SS watches for my white gold daytona and I can’t see me ever going back to steel.

I think I would just add the CHNR at this point and see how it fits in.

Two tone is nowhere near the same as full
Gold. It’s all about the feel and weight of a full PM piece and until you’ve owned one it’s hard to get across the massive difference over steel.

Yes, Gary, I know what full gold feels like. You actually don't have to convince me that gold is different than steel.

The OP said his maximum cash outlay was that of a TT CHNR and he really didn't feel like giving up any of his collection, so my thought was to go the simplest route of adding the CHNR. He is free to accept or reject that idea.

Nice collection. What about keeping the stainless theme going with an AP Royal Oak? I like the VC.

The 18K/SS CHNR is a cool watch. My AD has one, but since I have a 116713 LN, I passed on it. Going with a BLNR instead. I think the "two-tone" CHNR looks better in person than in pictures. Consider the updated movement and it makes it a real contender.

Good luck with your decision. Can't really go wrong.

That Bulgari looks cool, by the way.

Sorry I have no idea how to reconcile those statements.

It really depends on the brands to reconcile cost. There are amazing watches in PM that aren’t that expensive compared to Lange et al.

Blancpain GO GP and JLC come to mind.

A classic dress would be nice. Gold case on a croc strap.

I appreciate your dilemma. It took a while for me to come to the conclusion that if I don’t wear them they need to go. The only exception to this is been my father’s gold omega constellation. I don’t wear this watch but it isn’t going anywhere.

Consolidate and go full gold. TT won’t scratch the itch imho

Got to be full. I went white gold as didn't want a shouty watch but wanted to feel the value to myself of the success in being able to buy one.

I fully agree with this. I'm in the market for a full rose watch myself. About a year ago i bought the rose daytona on oysterflex. It's a beautiful watch, but it just doesn't compare to an all gold watch.

A TT piece is nothing like a full gold piece, that I can tell you. I’ve just traded my YG GMT 718. And I do miss it dearly.

I would say go with the RG Lange. But that would kind of overlap with the BP, in terms of dress watch.

I would sell 3-4 of those pieces and get a full gold Rolex. That's what I would do because in a collection of that size and diversity, some watches are most likely not being worn as much as others and I would wager that 2-3 of them get regular wrist time. Best of luck

A Gold watch is a must for any serious watch collector … especially Rolex Gold! Once you get bit by the Gold Bug LOOK OUT!!! My GOLD GMT is my favorite in my vast collection.

I guess that's kind of the answer I wanted. But since it's hard to even be able to try the CHNR can't know if I like it. Luckily my "new" AD said they get them regularly so shouldn't be a problem to source.

Your wisdom is to be taken seriously ;) Maybe this is the way to go in the end. So far I don't really miss traded pieces other than for sentimental reasons, it's not that I would wear them often.

The Royal Oak is beautiful but it just doesn't fit my tiny wrist and doesn't help with the gold.

Yeah that would be too much overlap with two gold GMTs and BLNR is cool. Yup hope to get to try the CHNR soon.

Thanks, the Finissimo is something quite different. Opposite of "full gold" weight but still cool and imao one of the most interesting new watches in this price range.

This is a taste/liking thing. Wear what you like. To me I’d rather have multiple steel watches over one gold watch...... but that’s only me!

TT is the best option for someone coming from a full SS COLLECTION

If you are already on the premium brands, don’t waste time on entry level brands, they won’t do anything for you, it is not about quantity but quality pieces

if you don’t wear some off you watches sell them, they are just watches don’t do anything in the safe

I tried to get away from gold but all SS watches bore me eventually with out some gold in my life. The new CHNR in Everose instantly became a grail watch when I saw it a Baselworld. The CHNR is a very special watch.

There is something with that colour combo that just works and you have some of the best pics on the internet to show that.
