What's driving the increased value in 16710 GMTs?

I'm guessing it's the shortage of stainless models combined with the current white gold GMT Pepsi. On paper what I paid for my preowned 16710 it's worth double that now.

I remember there was thread discussing about this not long ago.

For me the five digits Gmt 16710 or 16700 are most versatile watch, you can have them in Pepsi, coke, all black bezel or root beer. And wear them with jubilee, oyster, nato, or rubber strap.

If you own one, you should probably know how amazing it is. It's not a secret. Very desireable reference.

I guess it's the same or similar factors driving up increased value for pretty much all SS Rolex models.

For me, I looked at the pics of the new 126710 BLRO and decided the 16710 was well worth adding. It’s unique enough, and with the waiting lists growing, I felt it was better to jump now than wait for prices to soar even higher the next couple years. So.... maybe I’m part to blame for buying one at the going rate? Meh.... enjoy your time here.⌚️

I think it’s a ripple effect...when the Daytona’s and Subs became over heated in the market, eventually even regular GMTs began to rise.

In addition to the stainless sports situation and fanned by the new GMT craze... It really has always been one of the best Rolex five digit releases... Certainly the most versatile.

IDK but I wished it would stop. Only thing that hasnt really taken off is 5 digit SD even the darn Eii is going up. Tudor subs are over the moon which I passed many of them at 2.5K not too long ago

Many reasons for the increased value and interest, emotion, sleeker case design, bolder colors.

However, the 5 digit GMT, more than any other discontinued reference, will be the last Rolex produced with 3 different bezel and 2 bracelet options. The owner can swap these options on a whim to create a multitude of different combos. Never again will a watch have the diversity of the vintage GMT.

Because 4 digit vintage prices are insane and 6 digit watches are just not the design or proportions we want. I still think these are overpriced and I would hesitate throwing in much more money for these. I think the 5 digit Sea Dweller is a good buy but these are climbing.

It's probably the combination of a few things. The release of the 126710blro, high 4-digit prices, Rolex demand in general being high and vintage aesthetic with modern features.

Look what happened to 16520s when the DaytonaC was released. People couldn't get their hands on the new one so they started looking at the old references and now zenith Daytonas start at like 20k. Similar thing is happening with the GMTs now.

On the other end of the spectrum there's people who were interested in 1675/16750, but couldn't afford them so they looked at the next option, 5 digits. That's how I ended up with my 16700.

Vintage/used prices are ridicolous. There are literarly millions of 16710 and 16610, there is no reason they should be costing up to $10K and above. When will this madness stop?

It will stop as soon as Rolex makes a
GMT with customer changeable bezels
and a choice of brushed oyster or
Jubilee bracelet. Oh yes and make enough of them to satisfy at least
50 % of the demand. If this happens
You can expect a 10-15% drop in
value, madness thwarted.

I agree, the same thing happened to those old Daytonas.

Even if there literally are millions of the 16710 and 16610, only so many are available for sale at any given time. A fraction of those are in good condition and an even smaller fraction of those are complete with box and papers. $10k and above gets you the latter.

Asking prices are unfortunately based on what's actually available rather than what was originally manufactured. It's not as black-and-white as one might hope.

Just looked on chrono 24 there are almost 550 16710’s listed. If you want a good condition watch with papers all you have to do is buy one and send it into a RSC. 16710’s aren’t rare or scarce. We were told they were going up in value because there wasn’t a current SS Pepsi. Well that comes out and the goalposts have been moved further to some other silly reason. They made hundreds of thousands of 16710’s. Not rare and not hard to find. Internet hype and fables has a lot to do with it. There are even more 16610’s out there than 16710’s. It is nonsense.

When I'm looking for a watch with box and papers service papers won't cut it.
