5524g

I went to swap out my black rubberb back to blue today, so stopped at my AD.

They said they were actually planning to call. They have a 5524g. I passed because I really have my heart set on the 5164a. Both of course, a good travel time watch. Lately I’m also doing a ton of business with California, so I like the idea of having that complication.

I loved it. It’s just beautiful and fits super nice. BUT no way I can afford and then pick up the 5164 when available. They told me to expect May or June.

Curious what the current consensus on the 5524 is. Wondering if I’ll come to regret passing up this opportunity.

Any thoughts from the forum?

Yeah. Me too.

And at this price point, I can’t afford to make a mistake.

Not a huge fan of both personally. But I think the 5164a is more interesting because I do like the Aquanaut dial....just not on myself heh.

I prefer the 5524G over the 5164A. I am not very keen on the pushers of the 5164A. 5524G is a beautiful watch and looks great with a blue strap. Tyler and Jorge has some fantastic photos of the 5524G. Overall I think the demand for the 5164A is higher due to it being an Aquanaut and stainless steel. The demand for 5524G has fallen now and you will be able to get one in future if you pass it now.

If you are looking for a travel time watch have you considered the 5990? It is a superior watch to both 5524G and 5164A

The 5524G and 5164A are both very well-executed "modern" PP designs, but I think rubber strap and SS are ultimately more practical for a travel watch that is actually used for travelleling. Also a minor imperfection of the 5524G that I am not a big fan of: The date sub-dial has indexes instead of numerals for 2-out-of-3 dates making it harder to read and in general makes the sub-dial look too much like a small seconds dial IMHO.

I am not a big fan of the 5524g. Not just because I don’t like the design, but also because that design looks like a Zenith homage.

You asked this question much better than I did.

That’s one of the main points I’m trying to understand.

I love both watches but I decided to start with the 5164. It's more practical with the 120m wr and is extremely light. Will very likely add the 5524 later on..i hope by then it will still be attainable.

under the impression they were difficult to get retail for a while but are now discounted on secondary market?

would priority be to get new with name on papers or to save some cash?

If one has a good relationship with an AD, no Patek is hard to source.

I mean a long standing relationship where you’ve bought multiple watches over a number of years and are well known.

If anyone has that relationship, both the 5524 and the 5164 are not that hard to get.

If one doesn’t have that relationship, all desirable watches become more difficult.

Remember, this influx of new clients to Patek ADs is new to them. So most, like the ADs I work with, always offer these pieces to the local, well established clients first.

That being said, the 5524 is a great watch which IMO is much more versatile than the 5164 and you can change the look with different straps. The dial is a great color and the size and weight are perfect and unique.

You can always get one lightly used for a small discount, but I prefer to have my name on the papers.

I hope this helps.

Here are a couple of pics with the a blue Patek pilot strap.

Very helpful. Thank you.

I’m just beginning my relationship with this specific AD. One 5726 and a few items such as a winder, straps, and a money clip. But we are off to a good start. They are super people. And we are getting along quite nicely.

I like both watches. But my personality lends far more to the 64. It was hard to pass up, but I’m confident it’s the right move.

I’m told I’m number 2 on the list. I’ve every reason to believe them. I am local, and they’ve expressed that I’m the type of client they want. Simply in that I’ve a passion for watches and I’d be buying for me, not for the flip.

Hoping to have it on my wrist by the middle of next year.

I have a feeling you might have it sooner!

You seem very passionate and your AD knows you really want the watch.

Hopefully the person before you will pass and you’ll be next in line.

Lmao. I literally said that to them today!!!

Apparently the guy calls the store manager regularly and is eager to receive. Can’t say I blame him

But I hope you are right, and it’s sooner one way or another.

But I readily admit that while I very much want it on my wrist ASAP, I’m currently a very happy watch nerd and have two that I could wear forever. So, for just about the first time in my life, I’m not in the type of rush I normally am in.

I had a 5164 and it never got any time. Moved it along for my 5712.
The 5524 is kind of cool but the pushers kill it for me.
Seth, I know small watches were a concern and the 5524 might be more appropriate for you. The 5164 is
not a big watch.
What I miss about the 5164 is the ease
if setting the second time zone. It’s a snap.
I assume the 5524 is similar.
The 5524 is not hard to source. I’ve seen it recently at a few ads between NYCand DC.
Good luck

5524g

I have both. If I have to pick one as a travel watch, I pick the 5164. It’s under the radar and very versatile with the tropical strap.

That said, I find the 5524 to be the better looking time piece. It’s a homage to great aviator watches, which makes it fun to stare at it when you are on a plane.

5164 as a functional travel watch, 5524 as a beautiful timepiece.

You’ve seen my 5524g on the blue Nato so you know which I would say to go with. I absolute love the watch and can’t seem to take it off.

With the two you have, Seth, this one would have fit really nicely into your collection. But, I totally get it: with Patek, it’s about the passion. When your 5164 comes in, it will be awesome for you.

I like the 5524, love the 5164.

The 5524 seems to be falling like a rock on secondary. I think it’s a great time to buy one if it drops to around 35-38k. Similar to the 59601A.

Im probably in the minority, ive yet to ask for a 5167 or a 5164... i think its ok. Ive handled the watch and it really isnt something that has called out to me. It may actually be too understated for my personality. The 5524G was pretty understated for me already.

As for the value of the 5524G. Id be content it holds value at $40-42k
