I think this is the single most beautiful watch I've ever seen. Something about the crystal and the numerals is just...

wow.

Where the heck do all of you guys source these incredible watches? And is there a single source of information on the web? Also, are there any must-visit vintage Seiko stores in Tokyo? I'll be heading back out there over Christmas and this thread and hours on the internet means the Seiko bug has hit hard.

Thanks in advance for any advice...

Thanks. The day text is blue for Saturday and red for Sunday. I'll add a couple more pics over the weekend if I remember.

I've been reading up about these (and their King seiko 56xx siblings) - do you have any problem with the date mechanism? Has anyone started making a replacement part in metal yet?

Cheers...

Yes, you can get the metal spare part on eBay, with installation instructions. I think it was only the King Seiko 56 that had the plastic part, though, and not the Grand Seiko 56. I have had several of both, and none had an issue...you just need to be careful to never quickset the day or date between 9pm and 3am.

I can't find the eBay link now, but here's a mention of the guy's name and his company name (and a dead eBay link). https://www.reddit.com/r/Watches/com...roke_any_idea/

I really hope they still make it as rumours say they don’t. I’m off to the usual suspects in Tokyo in a few weeks and the 56xx KSs are at the top of my list. Don’t want to drive in unless the parts are still available!

Yours is absolutely gorgeous...

Thanks. Even if it does break, as far as I know, you could still slowset the Day and Date in the same way as had to be done with Rolex in those days. Or you could get a 5621, time-only.

Have been vintage Seiko hunting in Tokyo and have a soft spot for King Seiko. Just bought a KS 5246-6010 Special Chronometer. It is an astonishing watch - tiny, but punches above its weight with the solid case and broad, brushed shoulders. After 50 years it still runs at +-0. Insane.

Never been polished. Could not be happier.

When back in London, it deserves a new, more punchy strap. Colour suggestions please! (I'm veering towards a bottle green.)

Great watch, the KS52 is one of the best movements Seiko ever made, and the 6010 is quite a rare case. I had one for a while. I'd keep to the original style with black leather.
