One of Patek's finest upstaged?

The Lange Datograph Perpetual Tourbillon is just simply an epic watch. Even the spectacular 5970p has its work cut out to compete!

Lange is truly spectacular in the flesh. If it had Patek written on the dial price would be treble.

Congrats Ben, beautiful watch. How's the legibility on the sub dials? Enjoy it

Absolutely beautiful. I second KarlS's question though - those sundials look complicated, are they hard to read at a glance?

Ben??

The subdial legibility is a major problem for me. Basically if I decide to buy it I would have to accept that I can't read most of the information given my failing eyesight!

ROGER, I still like the Patek case size better. Tremendous chronos

I like Lange, but this one just doesn't do it for me. Plus, the unnecessary labeling "Datograph Perpetual Tourbillon" reminds me of 20x zoom or 20 Mega Pixels inscriptions on some consumer cameras. Whoever owns the watch already knows what it is; Patek gets it right and doesn't need to state the details.

Beautiful watches Roger.
Really like both, but that ALS is such a special piece. Really like the case size with the large dial layout. There is a lot going on but still does not look "busy".
Out of my league but very much appreciate the well thought out design and finish. Remarkable piece

Yes it is a remarkable piece for sure the Lange. I won't be buying it now almost certainly, I prefer to wait until it appears at auction at half the price!

ALS is a mechanical marvel and amazing watch on all counts.

Would rather have the 3970P on the wrist

The AL&S looks great from behind and is a mechanical marvel BUT it is such a shame We can't read the damn thing. The movement gets an 11 out of 10 and the dial gets a big fat Zero IMO. Love your 5970P my friend!

It would probably also look nicer (although that's subjective) and not as thick.

Good point.

Most PPs have a more subdued/austere appearance, which I tend to personally prefer, when compared to a similar ALS. They're both great, though!

Gus, I wish I could wear a 3970, just seemed too small and thick for me. Did you try it on?
