Old Rolex box and papers - legit?

Good day Folks,

I really need your help again please?

Just picked up a 1969 vintage 1603 datejust (in for service at the moment), and it came with this box and guarantee booklet.

The 30 odd page G. booklet certainly looks legit - its printed dateis 1970, but unfortunately they wrote "datejust" instead of writing out the serial number ( which is 2.1 million) - the sale date is 13 June 1973 and the USA oval link Jubilee bracelet is dates March 1971, so all dates seem reasonable to me.

But Its the box i,m struggling with - its small (approx 6 inches long x 2.4 inches wide x 1.4 inches high), but is only marked "made in switzerland" and "modele depose" with a symbol placed between the words - and no box number.

So does the box look legit, or was this used to return watches after a service back in the 70s?

Any other information on either box or papers most gratefully recieved

Cheers, paul

Why would U.K. papers be with a watch having a USA version of the Jubilee bracelet?

X2. If sold new in the UK, it wouldn't have a USA oval link bracelet. Swiss 6251 Jubilee would be correct for the watch when sold outside the USA.

Indeed, and thanks all, but the bracelet is the least of my concerns presently ( its in good shape and has all its links).

But still looking for any ideas on box and the G booklet - has anyone else seen a similar booklet with uk sold watches of late 60s vintage?

Likely purchased in the UK and then brought to the states where the bracelet was later swapped/replaced.

I see you are located in TX, did you purchase the watch locally?

Sherbie

The papers could be genuine or could be fake, there is no way of knowing.

Fake papers are banged out in their thousands (a fact Rolex owners try to ignore) but they can be made for very little cost and once they are printed, I doubt if even Rolex would know the difference. I had to deal with fake print in one of my previous jobs and I had to admit, however reluctantly, that the fakes are 99% as good as the originals.

The papers will add to the value of the watch, even though they may possibly be fake, so hold onto them.

Regards

Mick

Authentic Rolex presentation case used in the UK retail market (my old Shop still had some new ones on the shelf in the stock room twenty years after they stopped selling Rolex!).

The guarantee booklet is again an authentic Rolex guarantee used in the UK.

Agreed.

For some reason I seem to have seen this box with Explorers more than anything else, but suspect that is just coincidence.

Many thanks everyone - reassuring that several experts confirm that both box and papers are genuine, but of course, that is no guarantee that they came with this actual watch.

@ Michael M - i now live in Tx, but bought the watch 2 weeks ago in Hertfordshire, UK whilst visiting my parents. I hope to get the watch back from service in a few weeks time, as I cant take any chances wrt humidity in Tx!

But presume there still should have been a certificate with the sale purchase - similar to this? ( photo shamelessly borrowed from the web)

And a hang tag of some description? ( presumably the pre- hologram type?)

Cheers paul

Here is a borrowed photo of a similar era Sub with a full set. Your DJ would have been a little different but this gives you an idea.

You came from the UK and you're worried about humidity in Texas :-)

I know, ironic eh?

But in the UK i) you never go from house (or car) to the garden, and your glasses steam up for 5 mins ii) when outside, it never feels like you are walking uphill in a fan assisted oven set at 300C and iii) when you pop outside the house, your hair doesn't automatically stand on end like Art Garfunkel in a wind tunnel (not that i trouble the scorers with this issue anymore!!!)
