I have two watches that need to be repaired. I need some guidance.

1) My 1945 vintage 18k rolex precision that was from occupied Paris during the war fell on the floor and the balance broke. It has been to two different repairmen (supposedly Rolex) and both said they don't "have the parts" so I want to know how I can get this fixed.

2) My bubbleback. My precious 18k rose gold bubbleback oyster is running about 20 minutes fast each day. This just started. What is that? Who can fix this? I never had this problem. This is the one in my avatar. I'm thinking that I have to just accept it runs fast. I don't want to though. I want it to be fixed.

HELP. Advice before I go to local vintage rolex watch repairman number 3 ! ! !

Bob Ridley, a member here, is one of the premiere watchmakers in the US. He has the eye of the vintage community, and has done superb work on 2 vintage watches for me including an irreplaceable 1908 pre-Rolex. He's not inexpensive, but you generally get what you pay for.

If you are sure about the condition of the "balance," contact a couple of the watchmakers on the list and if they can help out before you mail it out.

That will be your best for a reasonable charge...

The bubble back is just simple adjustment.

The Parachrom Hairspring needs to be adjusted in the Bubble Back. The adjustment itself is a 2 minute deal. Checking said adjustment takes 24 hours at minimum.

Chances are that it is just the Balance Wheel Staff that needs to be replaced it the 1945 one

Man...I'd love to see a bubble back with a Parachrom hairspring.

WOW!

I would bet at 20 minutes a day it needs a bit more than a hairspring adjustment...even though it is physically impossible for it to be parachrom unless of course the original purchaser had a time machine...

Of course this thread is 5 years old...the staff on the 45 ladies model comes in 3 varieties...very tough to source. It seems one always has the wrong one.

Bubbleback with a parachrom hairspring.......I wonder if in the future they managed to standardize the part or whether almost every hairspring is still unique to the balance it originally appeared on.
