IWC Pilot’s Watch Chronograph
Since the 1930s, when IWC introduced the very first watch dedicated to pilots and aviators, the IWC Pilot’s watches have been constantly improved, redesigned and equipped with more and more complicated functions. The result is, among other models, the latest IWC Pilot’s Chronograph Watch. With an elegant design given by the choice of materials used and with a completely restyled dial, Pilot’s Chronograph has become the outstanding classic in strong demand.

Is this an advertisement? In my opinion, a 43mm watch with relatively long lugs isn't especially classic - combine that with the "look at me" triple date and the watch becomes even less classic.

Gave mine away to my bro. He loves it. The triple date window is actually immensely useful as no matter where the hands are, the date can still be deduced. It’s rare, but on a number of occasions when I looked the middle date of the aperture window was fully covered by the minute hand. Blue dial LPP version is stunning & paired with a santoni Hand finished strap, just perfect.

I've been crushing on IWC lately. The blue dials on the petit princes look good too.

I recently purchased the IWC Pilot Chronograph Top Gun; the newest 2019 model in standard black ceramic. As a former Navy man myself, I found the Top Gun branding very gimmicky. Over the years, IWC has reduced the branding footprint on the watches to the point now where it is simply an understated engraving on the titanium caseback. Top Gun is really more of just a subcategory within the Pilot range at this point which I like.
The new movement in these chronographs is outstanding. Mine is dead on accurate, easy to set, and highly reliable. Also I am not sure there is a brand that does ceramic better than IWC. While the Big Pilot remains the flagship of the brand, I think the Pilot Chronograph is an excellent alternative if you don't want something that's 46mm and top heavy. |
