The go to carry on setup. IATA Cabin Multiwheel
35 year old Tumi duffle/satchel. One panel has been replaced under warranty. I cannot bring myself retire it.
Pre Samsonite Tumi and pre-LVMH Topas. These two have been to at least 30 countries. Love them both. |

Brother. Let me put this in terms you and I can understand. Rimowa is the Patek Philippe of the luggage world! Most (of the classic lines) are hand made in Germany and the finishing of every little bolt, screw, lining, is just superb....and they’re incredibly durable. If a component breaks when you’re traveling you can arrange for Rimowa to come to your hotel and repair it before your return flight. Rimowa is bar none the best around.

Incoming... Rimowa luggage
Quote:
Isn’t that the opposite of Rimowa culture? Scratches are the character of a life well-travelled. And dents are cherished reminders of faraway places. Some 30 years from now they become time capsules of your travel adventures. [note: not my picture; not my case] Ah, don’t you remember that quaint hotel in the South Pacific when the porter dropped that case on your guitar? Yeah, that was the room where you flipped off the balcony into the lagoon and came up with a spiny crawfish attached to your bum......ah yes, that was a vacation to never forget. I refuse to pay top dollar for luggage! At least the size where you have to turn it over to the TSA morons. My luggage looks like it was thrown off of a building 10 stories high. Last time, I talked to some guy at the airline and he was looking at me like I was an alien. Pretty luggage tho...

Wotancraft Ranger.
Basically bags for camera geeks. :D I use this one without the camera padded dividers on some trips as I love the aesthetic. Otherwise it’s my main bag for shoots calling for multiple bodies, lenses , tripod, flashes etc. Couldn’t find it on their main site but the French was page still has it. Waxed lightweight water resistant canvas but way lighter than my Filson stuff. https://www.wotancraft.fr/en/gamme-c...to-ranger.html |

Well, here is my Rimowa that I've had since 2011 and my Daughters Rimowa I bought in november last year.
The last picture is of my daughters Rimowa (bought it for her when she was 6 months old, and the sticker-mania has started, so that she can later check where she's been) the damage it suffered on its first flight (HEL-MIA). And no, I don't have them inside plastic when not in use. LOL.

So are mine hence the stickers on there are places I been but at that time Rimowa was not selling stickers then. This is also MY LUGGAGE as are the other 18 pieces of Rimowa I own. Using them does not disqualify you from buying/owning them as in my case... Same with owning high end watches too..

I think it would be too fragile for my trips. Does look good when new though.

Yes they get the living heck beat out of them and quite honestly, I should have never bought any of the CHECKED LUGGAGE ones as I will never use them on a aircraft for that exact reason. I am just a sucker for cool stuff....! |

I’ve traveled quite extensively, been trough a couple of samsonites and a couple of el-cheapo suitcases. My RIMOWA luggage (Aluminium) are the only ones that have survived more than a few years. I have 3 aluminums, and they are probably going to be around as long as me. My wife’s Plastic rimowa is now dead after our last trip to Florida in September. A corner of it cracked. She bought hers same year I bought my first aluminum rimowa, 2011. She wanted the plastic version as she didn’t want to look like a drug-lord.... Well, she’s getting an aluminum next wether she likes it or not!

And they do look very cool - but yes agree carry on would be the better option for me too. Quote:
I’ve seen some absolutely terrible looking ones come through on baggage carousels. Bent metal and really gnarled up edges. I think I’m generally quite hard on my stuff - so it needs to be robust enough to cope. It’s a timely topic actually as one of our big cases is on its last legs - both figuratively and literally speaking. I do like the idea of a suitcase that will last a lifetime but just not convinced it will come in the form of a Rimowa. Even if I am a big fan of German manufacturing.

Awesome that you got her a pre LVMH one. What a story she’ll have by looking at her rimowa years from now with those stickers. I need to do a better job of buying stickers when I’m traveling. Where do you normally find these stickers? At the airport? |

I usually buy my stickers at tourist-shops (which I hate), or restaurant stickers (usually give-away) I've even peeled stickers off-the-street (when I couldn't find any to buy) You can't really buy them at the airports, and I find the Rimowa stickers a joke. (Sorry Breguet) I find part of the charm when traveling in finding cool stickers for our luggage, well mine and Bella's that is, but I guess mommy has to start now too as she's finally getting some "real" Rimowa luggage.

She's 15 months now, and doesn't have a clue about much, although she has a lot of fun all the time.... Man would I like to trade?! She's quite well traveled for only 15 months though. She's been to Guadeloupe, Spain, Germany, England, US (twice), Portugal and the Canary Islands.

I want them bad but luggage size is a fraction of inches smaller so they'd just be drama, sigh.

The pre has sharper profiled aluminium which run from top to bottom. Because of that it's wheelbase is sticking out a bit and looks less refined. This always steered me away from the brand.
Purist prefer this. I went for the new version and glad I did, the new is better finished with the wheelbase flush.

I guess I'm a purist as I like the old better.
