I offered to break wind for him. Still can’t figure out why they turned me down.

Breaking 2 hours is bananas, and also I am sick of "authorities" invalidating records. running all downhill or with the wind is one thing, but pacers? Why does an "official" record need to occur within the context of a competitive race?
I will accept if I get flak for being churlish, especially as whichever way you look at it, it is an incredible feat.

But it it was a time-trial in which everything that it was possible to control was controlled, so it’s right that it isn’t considered a world record. He had lasers beamed onto the road to help him pace the race; he had a small army of pacemakers who themselves are amongst the best middle-distance runners in the world, who were running in a formation to shield him from wind resistance; he got to choose the layout of the run - absolutely flat in benign conditions. The whole thing was bankrolled by one of the richest men in the world. Everything was in his favour.

It doesn’t diminish his supreme ability as a marathon runner but personally I would rate the eventual running of a sub 2-hour marathon in proper race conditions as a far bigger achievement.

Thanks lol, it is just one foot in front of the other and repeat for a few hours do it at a somewhat decent pace and it's called running

I ran marathon distance 6 times last year, of which 4 were more than 55km. I can say that I genuinely dislike road marathons and much much prefer doing trail and just chilling at my own pace. There is no fun in pushing for a marathon PR IMO.
Any healthy person can do what I do, most just don't like running. But no one can do what Eliud does, even if you do like running.

Eliud has excellent genes + perfectly tailored training. I hope he can break 2hrs in a competition setting as well!

That’s still a controversy but each sports discipline has a governing body that defines how a record is set.

Track lap records are set for us in motor sports as a race lap under the existing mark. If the mark is beat during qualifying (like a time trial) it isn’t counted as a track record.

I agree with your assessment though - under 2 hours is amazing.

He beat my best by an hour and 2 minutes. Those elite marathoners are super human.

I saw this guy on joe rogan the other day that says he averages 22 miles per day. I don’t know how his knees and ankles still work. He basically said to run that much you just deal with pain. If you can tolerate the pain you can run far haha

Must've been Cameron Hanes. I listened to a few podcast with him and Joe and follow him on IG. He's a machine
