Tudor Sub 7016 service dial?

Gentlemen

Do we have a service dial here?

Why is the dial so Damn perfect?

Do you think the case was polished?

What year is it please?

The oversized blob steel minute handset got me thinking….it might be a 7528 or v early 7016 Watch.

Complex business is the 7016, as 7016 1968/69 remained a 7928 style small rose, then 1968/9/70 Swiss only snowflake and then 1971 onwards t Swiss t snowflakes, but also these (typically 1/68 stamped) 7528 caseback spcg style pieces (with a 8 million style 94010 stick dial) also about apparently with shield dial and second hand big blob at circa 740### serial, although I’ve not seen one in person.

Also Like this one - read the blurb interesting back story (never seen a mid case being stamped) and 67-68 was perhaps bit too early I think !

So to answer your question I’m not sure - suspect John, Ross might be able to throw some light on it…

This configuration is a service dial in an early case, most likely a 68 I.68 619-624K serial case (based on back of crown guards). That dial style came out later 740K (IV.68 or I.70) and as Turo mentioned, would have the Big Bubble . This has that but the patina mismatch looks out of place. This *could* be a 740K but CGs indicate earlier.

Case is polished, not heavily, but polished.

Serial 741xxxx

Which makes it 1970

Which is consistent with transitional dial from the 4 lines rose to the shield.

So yes, original dial.

Some patina mismatch (hands relumed?), case is thickish but a little soft.. head only that is a decent price, not a killer deal, for a fairly uncommon watch

Interestingly, confirms some of my suspicions on the transition of cases by Tudor at that time, it has the sloping underside of the CGs like the SPCG, yet other 74x similar configs have the more rounded dropped CGs.

I didn’t end up getting it…. Top right lug always thin on Tudor for the reason unknown but this one way way too over polished. Lume and hands mismatched and dial while it’s probably right dial it still looks too brand new.. the price is not a steal… thank you guys for all the info..

I don’t think most people realize the rarity of this 7016 dial.
It’s the first time the shield appeared on a submariner.

service dial though so not that rare (also a bunch of them on eBay). You would get it if you got your rolex serviced prior (I dont know what you get now or if they even service it at all).

Yeah agree....it's one of those where an original rare thing becomes a service dial. Tbh most people don't like the stick dial (except perhaps on the 94110 hybrid), preferring instead rose mini, rose maxi or snowflake instead, and it's reflected in the values.

This to me is why I don't concur with the A/U serial SWISS only collector chorus. If they'd not made it a service dial in the noughties, then yes. Agree. ...but tens of thousands service dials the same - thus, not for me a collectable !

There was likely a Shield Dial on 66/67 7928 (with Short Hashes) in South America market
