BZ!

It is either a mid-late 1960s 7928 that was serviced in the 70s with a replacement dial and insert, or (much) more likely a 1968 (late IV.68 stamp) 7016 with a serial number at 74x,xxx, sold in 1969 or 1970, and then all original. I am guessing the latter based on the photos

Today there is a lot of space between the two, back then when they were more Tool pieces, ya know to DO things, there was a lot less difference between them. So, for me, a beaten up and ridden hard Tudor bought at the Base Exchange (or in particular issued), far outshines, a soiree Rolex safe queen.

These threads do the Tudor brand so much more justice than the 'respect me!' threads. What an awesome watch.

To the original poster, thank you for your service.

I really like the original greasy look to the watch. I like well worn stained and loved Tudors. Some see a bubble dialed Tudor and scoff, but these really appeal to me

I'm an Army guy and want to thank the Navy for posting this. My Tudor 75090 says hello.

After posting this, I realized I hadn’t exchanged contact info with John, so I called the Jeep dealership and asked if he was still there. They said he was, but was with a sales associate looking at a new truck.

I asked them to kindly pass him my phone number and name.

John called me just about an hour ago and gave me his contact info. I plan to stay in touch. He had another Admiral Zumwalt story from Vietnam about the brown water Navy.

I look forward to keeping in touch with him.

We need another Admiral Zumwalt. Not the 280 ships that did not have problems last year.... But I rant.

(And less LCS & DDG1000)

I live in Fallbrook (North San Diego County), but service was in Temecula (S. Riverside County).

You’ll never have another Zumwalt or Burke. Today’s Navy is filled at the top by those who have never made a mistake. Shame - all the risk takers are gone.

Ok. I’m in San Diego and know a retired Navy diver named John. Couldn’t be the same guy as he wouldn’t have been up in Temecula. Funny coincidence though.

Great story and great watch.

Tudor stoped being Rolex when they made the Hydronaut, a watch that old is a Submariner with a different logo on the dial painted by the same supplier. The movement is the only difference. Every single other part is Rolex.

To that vet it’s a Rolex, who cares what he calls it. My Infiniti is a Nissan.

The US navy issued Tudor subs to some of their UTD divers. The seal teams in the 60's and early 70's got them too. The Canadian Navy issued Tudor subs for over 30 years to divers. Most of the Rolex subs you see with "navy provenience" were purchased st the PX. Although apparently a handful of 5513's were issued to special groups (Seals, UDT's etc)

7016's, and 7928's were known to be issued to both Canadian and US divers.

I'm digging the large lollipop second hand on this one!

Cool story and way way more interesting and meaningful that the ever present "hey look at the watch this celebrity is wearing" threads that crop up.

This was issued to him at dive school. He even felt like maybe he should have turned it back in when he left the service after 30 years. I told him he earned it and then some.
