the interesting thing about Creed is they sell the "heritage"... established in 1760 and has fragrances that are named to clearly point to some old and historical periods in time, like they have been around for generations. Part of the heritage is what makes it look aristocratic and time tested.
Creed was a tailoring house in 1760.... became known for fragrances in the 1980's. Some of the earliest fragrances(possibly) date to the 1930's but most likely not, as 1975 is the first one known to have existed. Just saying as that isnt on the bottle and you would think they have been doing this for over 250 years. It still smells great, but that isnt totally what gets people to buy into the brand.

I don’t know the history - but if George Washington had made bad whisky - and his descendants were still making it - I think few would drink it here in US. The image is what we buy, I agree - it’s much like buying a Rolex instead of a Grand Seiko, don’t you think? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

I disagree, many Americans would drink it. But that's just my opinion.

I wear cologne everyday but I don't think I've ever even heard of Creed. Luckily they have a 3 samples for $30 that I just ordered, before I drop 400 without smelling it first. I'm trying Viking, Aventus, GIT... Judging by the forum hype I am way behind the times. Cant wait to smell "Aventus"

The only problem I have with Creed is that it makes me smell too good!

Yes!! Creed has been my go to for years!!
My current rotation is — Aventus - Millsime Imperial - Green Irish Tweed - Viking They make a great product. (Sometimes I’ll throw some Tom Ford Oud Wood - or Patchouli Absolu -in there to mix it up) You need to check out Memo - Paris also. Checked out last time we were in Neimans. Another great product. Interesting article below. It's published by Creed, so I suppose you have to consider the source (they obviously have an advantage in spinning their history as close to fragrances as possible). There has been plenty of scandal around some of the statements they've made (some examples in the link below) and the lack of evidence to support these claims. Link |

With an extra dab behind the ears and knees, eh?

Be warned though, it’ll be nothing like Tom’s – it’s quite smoky and woodsy, which is at complete odds with what most of us are familiar with when it comes to how we expect Patchouli to smell. |

Bumping this old thread. My current collection is very small:
RL Safari: citrus with Caribbean spices, warm woods notes YSL L’Homme: fresh woody, bergamot, ginger, vetiver Gucci Guilty: Italian lemon, mandarin, crushed green leaves, lavender, pink pepper There is a theme here, at least to my nose....citrus (fruit), fresh, warm, etc. I’m looking to step it up and grab a bottle of Creed (and perhaps Tom Ford). What would you recommend to start with? Aventus? I don’t want something too sweet or too strong.

Don’t buy without trying it on your skin first.
What one person smells from a product on their skin can differ greatly from another’s, as well as what notes are detectable. FWIW, I find (for me) that Creed is extremely short-lived, is mainly a skin scent, and lacking in anything that grabs me, whereas with Acqua Di Parma, the Oud and Leather ones are extremely long-lasting, have great projection, and completely grab me... unfortunately, the other half’s nose detrcts an incense scent which she’s not found of. So, get some samples try them, and them see which one(s), if any, you (and the other half) gravitate towards. |

^Good point. Next time I’m at the mall, I’ll go to Neiman Marcus to test the Creeds out. I just have the bug to expand my fragrance collection. It’s quite overwhelming though...

Never make a decision based on smelling a fragrance just on a card or after 5 mins of spraying it on your hand/arm. Also, don’t wear any when you plan to go sniffing, and after smelling 3-4 on cards, give your nose a bit of a break. Most stores (if any really) will have coffee beans or teabags on hand, so bring your own in a small plastic airtight container, which are useful for clearing your nose, if you plan to smell your way through more to shortlist 2-3 to skin test or get samples of. If citrusy is your thing, then stop by the Acqua Di Parma counter — I know this is (was?) a Creed only thread, but it makes sense. Equally, it may be time to venture into something a bit different from the norm. |
