Watches and Travel

Curious how many of you travel with your Rolexes and how many leave them at home? Vacation is a time I like to dress up, have my nice things with me and really enjoy life but know that I may be asking for challenges via theft etc.

What do others here do?

To be safe I stick with an SS sports watch on a steel bracelet.

I've worn a Rolex all over the world and seldom take more than the one on my wrist.

I have a one watch travel roll and take another if there is a reason, formal affair, diving, rock climbing, or the like, but they will all likely be a Rolex.

I find it more worrisome taking care of my cameras that might cost as much as the watch. The wife's jewelry is worth more than my watch too

Thanks for the feedback, trying to decide whether to take my BLRO to NYC next month. Never worried about this before but also have never have had a watch this expensive.

I appreciate your thoughts.

I went to NYC last August and I had the same concern initially. Once I got there I saw so many people with Rolexes. Never thought of it after that but I was always aware of my surroundings. Situational awareness and you'll be fine.

To be honest, I travel a lot, the safest place is on your wrist.

Dont you worry. If you encounter a thread, all you need for self defense is a PENCIL!

Relax, there's millions of NYers with Rolexes lol. You won't stick out one bit. You bought it to wear and enjoy so go for it. As a bonus you can use your GMT complication.

as long as I’m in a 1st. world country, and stay out of the questionable parts of a city,
I have no worries.

To date have traveled with my rolex for every vacation since 1991.

Perhaps I may try a lesser known brand in the future but hasn’t Happened yet.

I travel a lot and I always take my Rolex. On vacation I will take 3 of them sometimes. I wear my watches to enjoy them and switch between them when on vacation

My rule of thumb is - Rolex if I travel within my home country of Canada. Omega if overseas.

take it.

Unless people are leaving their LV or Goyard wallet at home and switching it out for a nylon velcro wallet or if it rains using a plastic poncho so no one would notice a burberry trench coat. Lots of things besides a watch is a signal to someone paying attention that you might have something worth stealing.

Someone might also see you walk out of a nice hotel so does that affect accommodation choice? I never get why its the watch and only the watch.

The good thing with Rolex is that you can wear it for any occasion.

I take 1 watch and it doesn't come of my wrist. I swim, dine, walk, climb, enjoy the beach with it...

Rolex is the best!

And don't worry, never felt unsafe with my Rolex SS

It all depends on where I am going and where I am staying. I usually wear one and carry a Seiko as a beater, if needed. I own property at the coast and when I visit I take my whole collection. No different than my home as security system and safe make it as secure as home.

My Rolex goes where I go. My brother took his BLNR to Peru for 2 weeks a few months back, on all kind of adventures. He had no issues.

Passing through security at a big airport is the reason I don't wear my Rolex when I travel by plane. Where are a few seconds where you must leave it in a plastic bucket passing through an X-Ray machine while you stand in one of the cylindrical (microwave?) scanner booths. Laptops have been stolen by people already through the process waiting at the end of the X-Ray conveyer. No problem the rest of the trip.

I always travel with a GMT because I need to know what time it is back home at a moments glance. As far as safety, predators smell fear, and if you're insecure and afraid something might happen to you or your things....it just might. Do what makes you comfortable and at ease.

How is coastal property in NC these days? I hope you've avoided any damage.

I usually travel with whatever watch I feel like fits the trip, but I would not shy away from having a Rolex on the wrist. I enjoy it.

I have worn most of my Rolex watches on trips out of the country. I usually bring the 16710 when crossing time zones. So far, I haven't experienced any issues in doing so.

Really depends on where I’m going. Am I headed back to Tokyo, the city that owns my heart? No problem. I could wear a suit made of Rolexes and never worry for a minute. Traveling in the US? No worries there either (none more than normal, anyway). Am I heading back to Bucharest to visit old friends? Yeah....not wearing my Rolex there. You can get stuck up for $30, not willing to take that risk. Get in the wrong cab and that could be it for you.

So really, it depends on where and what the crime is over there. I mean, I live in a major city where crime happens everyday, so it’s something to think about. But in some touristy areas, as I’m told especially in South and Central America, Rolexes are used by criminals as a targeting mechanism. See a Rolex, rob that guy or gal. No need to draw unnecessary attention.

Just keep it on your wrist from now on. I've never taken a watch off at the airport.
