Rolex DSSD - first thoughts

I recently picked up a Rolex Sea Dweller Deepsea (V-series) last week. I've always had a "bigger is better" mentality when it comes to watches (Rolex Sub always looked small on my wrist, but massive on others - could never understand that) which manifested itself in the following purchase/trading cycle (Panerai 005->024->005->Breitling SOH Chrono).

I finally reached a point where I wanted one watch that I could wear all the time (casual on the weekends, but dressed up enough to pass underneath a suit), didn't have a blingy mesh bracelet, and didn't require a second mortgage to build a strap collection (I wore the rubber diver strap for my Panerai's 95% of the time). I eventually made my way to the Rolex line of fine watches and the DSSD, and I am excited that I did.

The DSSD is a massive hunk o' steel on the wrist that wears very comfortably. I was weary of the tapered bracelet concerns many on the forum have mentioned, but alas I never noticed it (or failed to notice due to the current honeymoon period). Build quality, from the glidelock clasp, the ceramic bezel, and the finish on the case/bracelet are all top notch. In all honesty, it's the most solid watch I feel I've ever put on my wrist.

In any case, on to the pictures (please excuse the grainy, poorly lit Iphone4 pics).....

We all know this box

What's in the box......

There she is

Wrist shot

And some lume shots - one in a black light room at a Children's Museum, and another after "charging" it with my night stand light

Long time lurker, first time poster. Definitely excited about joining this active community and learning more from the knowledgable folks on the board.

A BIG congrats to you!

That's one ruggedly handsome, ubered engineered and iconic timepiece you have there if I say so myself.

ENJOY and cherish it. I personally do every day and it's been over a year now.

I just got mine from Alan Furman last week for $9800. Question: why is the sticker on the back partially peeled back and folded?

I've had mine for a week or so. I finally took the last of the stickers off last night. I even took the sticker on the caseback off. The watch is so much shinier now.

The one thing I don't like about this watch is the curved crystal, which distorts the view of the dial & other parts underneath. The "rolex rolex rolex..." that's printed sideways around the dial is very clear on other rolexes, creating a 3D impression. On the DSSD, the dial looks very shallow, despite the fact that it is probably deeper underneath the crystal than the dial on the submariner.

The DSSD looks great on you....
You're right about it being very comfortable and the tapered bracelet works so well in this regard.

Congrats
