Almost forgot. I need some kind of white noise to sleep as well otherwise I'll fry in my bed the whole night. I turn on the AC every night for the noise but modern ones are terribly silent and that's why I hate them. I'd say try melatonin, exercise, low carbs at night, no drinking, white noise of some kind even on apps, no computer before bed, but if everything else fails try sex and weed. Problem solved.

First started about 20 years ago. A whole winter waking up after a few hours & then struggling to get back to sleep

Thought come spring/ summer - would just get up at 3am/ 4am & go cycling but started to sleep better come doing. That was the pattern for 15 years. Tried everything & i mean everything bar pharmaceuticals without any joy

Now seem to get intermittent patterns of good sleeps/ bad sleeps. Have just learned to live with it

Work a lot of nights sometimes rotating on to a day shift. Best thing I found is melatonin, excerise and eating healthy. I also try and stay away from the iPad computer, phone before sleeping helps massively.

What helps me sleep is: white noise, and reading (not watching tv or on mobile device) a book before going to bed.

Whatever you do, do not focus on why you can’t fall asleep - it is counterproductive. I know it is easier said than done when lying awake in the middle of the night. Instead, try to focus your mind on something else; preferably, something simple. For example, if you have a favorite tv show, try to recall as many episodes as you can. Or, if you have a favorite sport, the players on your favorite team. The goal is to keep your mind occupied. Kinda like “counting sheep”, but with a subject more interesting. Crazy, I know, but the aforementioned actually works for me.

Good luck.

If exercise and diet do not work, 25-50mgs of Trazadone should work. Ask your physician.

Meditation sometime throughout the day, and get off anything that requires a lot of focus at least 60 minutes before sleep (computer, phone, work related things, etc...).

I used to have a hard time sleeping. I fixed it for the most part by winding down and training my mind to ease off a bit. Getting off the pc and watching something on tv to relax my mind helped a lot. Slowing breathing helps too. By the time I go to bed, I have wound down.

Meditation because you need some time where there is no noise. Bedtime is the first time with no noise, so some tend to think of all the day's problems then. Meditation or something close can be used to provide that no noise time and clear your thoughts.

Remove all jewelry of any kind especially tight rings. Then when you want to sleep don’t close your eyes, instead lift your eyes upwards into your head, and gently hold them there for 30 seconds or so for a few minutes. With a little practice you find this helps.

I've been a chronic insomniac for 25 years. I've tried everything (except benzos and weed) and the only thing that has reliably worked for me is 50mg of trazadone before bed.

Oh yes and either a mug of Ovaltine or Horlicks before bed I think in USA it’s called diotoid which became the above in uk and rest of world. It went up Everest with the original climb can’t be bad.

To those who have problems with sleep, talk with your MD, if OTC meds don't work or if your prescribed meds are no longer working.

I have suffered from insomnia for 50 years, but with medical help, I now have a regimen of medications that work for me and make my life livable.

I can remember struggling to sleep in my teens and now at 48 I’m still struggling. I’ve been on sleeping tablets (zopyclone) on and off for 12 years. I’ll go a few days to a couple of weeks a time without one at the most. Recently been ill and after a couple of days in hospital followed by a few weeks off work I’m taking them every night.

Never get to sleep before 1am and awake from 6am, 7am if I don’t get to sleep until 2 or 3.

It’s nearly 1am now and I’m wide awake. I can live with it, but it’s extremely frustrating and I’m sure it must affect my health. Rant over :banghead

At MY AGE I’m afraid white noise would make me wake up to go potty

Don’t eat coffee flavored M&M’s before bedtime

I DID that 1x while writing out checks
I could’ve saved the postage & walked the dang bills there after that

Exercise & sex used to work.
Then exercise, sex and brandy.

Now it is getting harder to sleep even with those.

But I found medicinal dispensary really helpful.

TV before bed does make a difference, I usually watch old familiar comedies, Two half men, Big Bang etc, so I can relax and wind down, but occasionally I watch a thriller or serial killer documentary and that can affect my sleep and have me thinking too much.

Exactly my way working or even just cruising on the net and your sleep is gone a nice relaxing movie (better if you ve seen already a couple times) and you fall asleep like a baby

Viva las you have not mentioned if you tried Ovaltine or Horlicks, for a couple of quid, it would seem to be a no brainer. Maybe it’s just a little to simple eh.

Update . . . . .

My wife ordered some melatonin gummies from the U.S. and I’ve been using them on and off for the last month. They are really good. Gently gets me off to sleep. I still awake the odd time in the night but they have helped a lot.
