5513 Experts - Thoughts on this One?

https://vintageworn.com/product/role...k5-unpolished/

I don’t know much about vintage, but seems “honest”. In the market, maybe not necessarily for this exact watch, but hoping to use as an example of what to look for.

Thanks. Looks unpolished, for as much as that term is overused these days. No idea on what fair market value is on these.

Is 24 grand off the charts for a nice 5513 with box and papers these days (assuming everything checks out)? You might need to reverse the 2 and the 4 ten years from now...

In fairness, watch only

$24k feels high, but that does seem to be where the market is now... Similar watches are priced similarly on C24, albeit with the opportunity to haggle.

Actually it says box & booklets, big difference...

Is not cheap but he watch is pretty nice and is a well know seller, you can always contact him and discuss the price, you never know...

I think the OP needs to browse around and check prices - $25,000 for a 1984 Submariner 5513? I'd also recommend that you run some reference checks on the seller.

Although I haven’t looked at pricing on these for a while, the price seems high. It could be because I’m out of touch since I bought mine a few years ago. Either way, it look likes a nice example.

Wow, that’s roughly 10k for papers.
The heck is going on these days?

It seems like a lot of dealers have bumped their asking prices up by 20-25% in the last few weeks since the most recent auctions. Let's see if they sell.

The case looks amazing - unpolished. I personally prefer Maxi Dials and price seems very steep

30% premium for a for a vintage Submariner or GMT complete set is not out of line at all. Premiums for complete sets have been this high for any years, and sometimes even higher.

Just to be clear, the OP watch doesn't have papers. Just box and brochure.

That's a very nice, seemingly unpolished, matching patina, all-original 5513, down to the I date code (1984) on the clasp. Even without papers, price is fair for crazy current market, which could forever stay crazy and even crazier moving forward.

Also, keep in mind that at 8.4 million, this is one of the very last of the 5513 Maxi dials before the gold-surround hour-marker dials. That makes it even cooler, IMHO.

I've been following the seller on IG (vintagerlx), but there aren't many reviews/references out there. Stuff certainly looks good.

And if the current environment couldn’t be any more confusing, we now have the “unpolished” variant where in the finer print description it is also noted that watch has been “recently polished”. SMH.

Much prefer the first one, which is cleaner overall with nice matching patina.

This "unpolished, polished" Sub has messy hands. They might be original, but they didn't age well.

These Maxi dials are commanding a premium way more than your serif, non-serif matte dial examples. Collectors just need to decide if it's worth that extra $7K to $10K.

$26k for a late 70s 5513 with shot hands and service insert. Is that where we are these days??

In a buyers market I'd assess a value at 12-15k

I agree better hands / dial on the first one. And yeah agree as well that the Maxi Dials are more desirable.

They covered themselves for sure against an unhappy customer...the ambiguity between polished and unpolished is there in black and white...caveat emptor.
