Rolex Submariner 124060 Guide
I have been looking at the new Submariner 124060, and at first look I really did not see anything new that would really make me purchse this verse the last model (14060). That was my initial reaction but I dove into this guide, https://www.bobswatches.com/rolex-bl...060-guide.html, and it actually has a lot of small changes that make a huge impact on the overall aesthetic and functionality of it. Of course the actual movement has been updated to the Caliber 3230 which of course is new and improved from the previous generations (caliber 3130). Aethetically I am really enjoying the 1mm adition, as small as it is, the look and feel of this case is absolutely perfect. Also the power reserve is a plus too, a full 70 hours of power reserve...I'm always happy about that, but I am curious on what the community has in mind for this piece. Is it just another version of the Submariner, or has those small changes defined this model enough to stand as a beautiful new generational Submariner that many people will want in their collection? I know I am close to purchasing this beauty but feel like I want some back-up and third party confirmation, so let me know your thoughts.

Sub is my favorite watch. Can wear it anywhere, all occasions. It is the most iconic Rolex, maybe most iconic watch period. I had the 114060. It was a really great watch, but I always felt the bracelet was too small for the width of the case, it felt just a little off balance. Traded it in for the 124060 and never looked back. It is the base of my collection and only one I won’t ever part with, until I give to my son someday. It is perfect, so clean, understated, while the black bezel and dial is really striking at the same time. You can’t go wrong.

Start by saying I’m just a watch lover, not a long term experienced Rolex watch wearer/owner. I owned a 1993 16610 with its’ jingly bracelet, cheap feeling clasp, and tritium lume completely extinguished…and I regret selling it. It was actually an awesome proportion watch. Hands, markers, lugs, etc. I handled and briefly wore 2 of my friends 114060 and it felt half as good to me as the 16610 did from a purely aesthetic standpoint. When I saw the 124060 online I figured I’d try once more to handle the watch and see it in person before writing it off too and going back to a 90’s T-25 Submariner, but when I handled and felt the latest model, I was glad to look down and see more resemblance (in my experience and eyes, which is what matters most) to the older form of that 16610 I loved and regret selling. The difference is I get a brand new watch and to add my scratches (memories) to it, because I wear it with everything I do. Oh, and the jingly bracelet and cheap aluminium stamped clasp of my 16610 although charming and light weight, doesn’t even hold a candle to the new one.

You really need to feel them both on wrist to get the magic of the 124. The balance and weight of the new proportions makes it such a pleasure to wear and I think you can't get that from images.

For a long time I was a 5-digit super fan. Then, one day a couple of years ago I was able to get a 114060 from an AD. That watch caused me to absolutely love cerachrom, and love the classic, simple-yet-perfect dial layout of the Submariner (no date). However, similar to @JRell I felt something was off. I had to convince myself that I loved the Cerachrom so much that I’d overlook the lugs, and the way it fit high on my wrist…
Sometimes I’d think to trade the 114060 for a 14060 – better aesthetics, but no cerachrom, no chromalight, no glidelock, etc. I couldn’t make the trade. Then, the 124060 was released… perfection! It has the wonderful aesthetics of old, but with all the modern enhancements that makes Rolex such an incredible watch today. I traded my 114060 for a 124060 and couldn’t be happier! It looks better and wears so much better on my wrist. B7FAF21A-30DA-4347-BD69-800B4AA9AAB4.jpeg Good luck, OP! |

I got my 124060 from my AD 3 weeks ago. I’m having a really hard time taking it off and putting my 14060M back on. I daily wore that watch for 8 years. Shows you how much I love the new Sub and how much Rolex got it right.

How does it compare? I love the 14060. Does the new sub wear much larger or is it better proportioned? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

The 124060 is the most complete watch I’ve ever owned, it’s sublime in every way! Only had it 6 months but it really ticks every box for me and genuinely feel like I’m going to have it forever.

It’s the best. Also would you agree that there seems to be a greater proportion of Sub owners preferring the no date version over the date? |

Not saying I am more of a watch guy than the next, but the no date sub seems to be more of the choice of the connoisseur, whereas the date version gives that extra functionality most everyday Rolex owners seem to prefer |

The new Submariner is a great watch, it is my first Rolex from the ‘Professional’ range, if I have a criticism then it is that it only comes in black, a nice blue would be awesome.

The Submariner Date is the model with variety — different dials, different bezels, different metals. |

But the Submariner is just so great, a symmetrical dial giving true balance and that iconic look, the use of the word classic is often overused but never when associated with the 124060.

I love the 14060/M too and still believe it’s one of the best watches ever made. With that said, I love the 124060 as well (maybe even a bit more but I’m in the honeymoon phase) and believe Rolex has made the Sub that should’ve preceded the 14060M. All of the improvements are functional IMO except maybe the bezel because ceramic is more brittle than aluminum. You get more scratch resistance but less physical durability which is the only negative I can really see. I’m also not so much a fan of how “blingy” it is but I digress. The jury is still out on the movement but we will see if it lives up to the longevity and reliability of the 3130. It wears almost identical to the 14060M except I do notice the extra weight and the glide lock feature is pure genius. This is one of my favorite reviews of the new Sub and they compare it to the 14060M. https://youtu.be/C6rJ0qfcgeg

114060 owner (it was my first Rolex directly from an AD). Not sure what the new one looks/feels like but I dont see myself trading for the 124060.

I owned a 114060 and loved it. I also love the 5 digit cases and purchased a 16618ln. I decided to add a SS sub back into the collection. Went to my dealer to see the 12 model hoping it was the five digit aesthetic in more modern form. It wasn't, while the lugs are changed at a minute level, its still a slab sided super case. That does not mean it is bad, it just is what it is and its a fantastic watch. Personally not a fan of the wider bracelet and clasp but that is just personal preference.
So to your question, " is the 12 model a new generational stand alone model? I would say definitely no. Rolex has done what it has always done and made the submariner great, by not drastically changing the model and making thoughtful, small, incremental changes. So whether you own a 4 digit, 5 digit, 11, six digit or 12 six digit, you own the Submariner. They are all great ps I have a 16610 incoming, hoping to post soon!

I love both 11 and 12 series, they are great timepieces.
It can be daily and goes with everything.
