"Upgrading" from 5167A to 5164A
Hey folks!
As I am 'maturing' my collection, I find myself pulled towards some useful complications. My job in particular has me traveling quite a bit between time zones, and while I could just use my phone or adjust the time on my watch. I thought it might be nice to have a travel time complication. A few observations: 1. I'm getting the WG GMT Pepsi (blue face), in the next 6-8months. BUT, this is a very flashy watch. I like to be a bit under the radar when it comes to client meetings. I have to have a nice watch, but not 'bling it out' in front of them, or have any display of 'too much'. So while I like the GMT for 90% of the time, I doubt I'd take it to client or personal travels. Too much attention. 2. The 5164 seems like a perfect solution. I LOVE my 5167, I truly think its my favorite watch. BUT, I feel as if I'd love it more with a bit more heft (2mm thicker), and more usefulness (complication). 3. When not traveling, I live in very warm weather (Miami) and find myself in the water often, and the 120m water resistance is good enough there (for when I dont wear my 116610LV). So I'm curious. I'd love your take on 1. Keeping the 5167 as is 2. Upgrading to a 5164. Sadly I cannot keep both. They're too similar, and only need one of the two. Here's a quick poll: |

Do it. I went through the same thought process back in December, consolidating a BLNR and 5167. The 5164 is the perfect piece for your needs - the GMT function is very intuitive and practical to use. I love the symmetry of the dial and case, and it has the right amount of thickness for its diameter and sporty persona (I sometimes felt the 5167 was too thin.)
The 5164 is a great value these days as the 67 is going for a premium above retail, such that the gap has narrowed between the two enough that I think it justifies the upgrade. |

I'd get the 64.
Also - I guess this is subjective, but I didn't find the BLRO to be flashy at all when I had one. That's kinda what I liked about it, PM feel with SS looks. |

You should definitely upgrade if you can! I had the chance to try both of them on and even in my super tiny wrists they both looked great and I could barely tell the difference in size between them. It’s a ridiculously nice watch, and like you said it’s also great for how under the radar it is.

I own a 5167 but if I had to pick between the two then it would certainly be the 5164!

Now might be a good time, since 5167 has gotten a boost in value.
To me, my math was simple at the time - I'd rather have the 5167 plus another watch, so I went that route, but I don't think there are any wrong choices. |

Im also in the same boat as OP and intend to upgrade my 5167 when funds allow.
The PCL bracelet and ceramic bezel GMT is quite bling (to me anyhow) and I would also prefer a more "under the radar" for travel Aquas are great daily wearers (within reason) due to the rubber strap - love mine! |

sounds like an existential question. Can't help much except to say both seems equally flashy. I think you just want to buy the watch and you are looking for a pragmatic reason. No need to really, it's a beautiful watch, just get it.

I’ll be the dissenter .... I prefer the 5167. Besides the huge $ differential at retail, I prefer the cleaner dial, thinner profile, and the date window. And I do not travel between time zones often. With that said, they are both beautiful and I understand why most prefer the 64 and why some with a 67 have the itch to change to a 64.

I gotta tell you. You are not wrong. I love the 5167 as it is. It is a hard decision. And it won’t cost me less than 12-15k to upgrade. With that much money I could almost buy an AP 15400, a Daytona (retail), and a bunch of other options. Hell, those funds could go towards my grail 5726. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

It’s definitely not a cheap upgrade, if you do have plans of getting other watches then it might be worth saving the money and using it for those instead of just for switching this one… specially since this is already an amazing watch as is!! |

Also if you intend to swim with it I’d rather have the 5167 or 5726. The pushers on the 5164 would make me nervous in the ocean.

I’m triggered by the phrase upgrade. They’re both amazing pieces, it’s a choice not an upgrade.

I’ve owned both, currently have the 64 and I prefer the 64. I think I’d probably prefer the new chrono over either mainly because I have more use for the chrono than a travel time but I digress.

The 5167 is a much cleaner dial watch than 5164A.
There is nothing greatly horologically astounding about a GMT function. I'm not a big fan of skeleton hands. If you need a GMT function you can get that on a Rolex be it SS or PM. What if you keep the 5167 and get the new SS/RG GMT with the updated brand new movement...now that would be totally cool! Each to their own.

I think that’s great advice. Precisely the issue I’m dealing with. I’m waiting to see what sort of deal my trusted dealer can give me. But I’m not optimistic. If it’s too high , I’d rather use those funds towards the 5726 I want. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

the salon in london did say they thought with a fairly high level of confidence the new aquanaut chronograph clasp would filter down to the rest of the line. It is a better clasp

"Upgrading" from 5167A to 5164A
I’m having serious doubts with 5164, due to pushers. I expected this to be an “Aquanaut”, and use it in all ways. Traveling and at the pool / boat every weekend as well.
I’ve been reading about this in other threads. Seems to be a big risk to me. Worse part was to hear that “Patek won’t touch water damage”. ew. I live in Miami after all. So let’s see. I might have to learn to count my time zones instead 🤣. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
