They only made 2000 for the world and it’s interesting that some remain on dealer shelves. In the beginning of any limited series there is a bunch of people that buy to flip but inadvertently drive prices down by flooding the market. Once things settle down in a few years the prices climb as those that own them want to keep them and not flip them. Anything less than $3400 would be a pretty good deal in my opinion. In 3 years they’ll be at 5k

I think they have a hard time pushing a $3400 Seiko while the ones next to it are selling for $340, I've just checked it out again and again will negoiate for the best deal. It's looks better in real life like a diamond in the rough sitting the middle of Seiko5. This one is on this displayed for the past few months already. When I bought my Gold Tuna from this shop it was on display for more than a year hence the better deal

You can have the lower tier SBDC053 for around $6-700 and it’s a really nice watch. Not as nice at this one, but a lot of the same attributes for 1/5 the price. I’m a big fan of mine. Running at +1 second per day with6r15 movement!

That rubber strap is like too much of a Lint Magnet..for that price range..
I personally find it unacceptable.

It still is my favorite watch and daily wearer.

Beside the obvious quality and extremely good looking dial the thing that strikes me the most is its resistance to scratches. Any watch I have owned and worn looked like a used watch pretty quick. Especially my Rolexes.

This watch, after 5 months of daily wear, looks brand new. Not a micro scratch to be found.

Contrary to the above post I feel this watch is a bargain. It's exclusive by virtue of its ltd production and so well made.

Compared to a Rolex Sub it is 'cheap'. I am so happy I got over the 'it's only a Seiko' argument.

This is the watch that ruined Rolex for me. After I wore it my Explorer just seemed so flat and uninspiring, and then there was the major price difference. The Explorer was (for me anyway) way more comfortable; I can't wear this one daily, on the rubber anyway.

Yes I agree with you.
The case is treated with scratch resistant hardening treatment that makes the surface 2-3 time harder than untreated stainless steel.

I'm so disgusted with myself for not being aware of this watch earlier...I guess I will have to pay for that lesson

But still when I think back to other watches like the Panerai Fiddy, I was nearly going to fork out $20K for that, so this watch is an incredible buy even at well over retail.

I guess this is what happens when one focuses too much on one brand (Rolex). Anyway, better late than never as they say, well I hope that is the case.....

The sla017 is the most comfortable Seiko dive watch, nothing, imho beats the fit & comfort of a Rolex sub, but this watch is pretty good!

A little if ever mentioned fact is that the underside of the sapphire crystal on the SLA017 has anti-reflection coating on this model.

It seems to be only mentioned on the Seiko website.....and now here

I'm sure it gives a hand to the 3D appearance of the dial.

Unfortunately the modern Sub doesn't like my wrist that much, while the SLA loves it. :)

I'm thinking of ordering a leather strap for this watch but I can't work out whether grey or brown would work better.
To me the dial on the SLA looks predominantly brown but its hard for me to tell. Can someone set me straight on this please?

The dial changes depending on the light, any color works! I have mine on different colors, OD green nato, a dark khaki, & Bond, black grey strip

Thanks Bob

The shark mesh seems like a cool option too in keeping with the diving theme.
There is one online seller who is selling the entire bracelet for only $39.

The colour of the dial on the Seiko SLA017 is very similar to that of the Patek Aquanaut 5167A. Just the colour as the surface of the Patek is embossed.

You sold yours after a few weeks, though, right Steve? Any regrets?
