I've gone into watch stores wearing my 16570, and gotten bad treatment. I would think at least a watch store would identify someone wearing a decent watch. Instead I felt like they treated me as a young guy wearing a hoodie.

But to answer, no never felt treated any differently. Gotten 1 or 2 mentions by strangers, but was more in passing, not long enough to judge their view on me.

I’m treated poorly with anything less than a Patek Perpetual Calendar.

nope. If people see my watch, they probably assume it’s fake given how the rest of me could best be described as a shambles.
I was very aware in Hong Kong, where the staff tend to stand in the doorways of the watch shops, that my watch was being checked out as I entered. Given the relative prices of the watches for sale, I doubt my Rolex would have qualified me for preferential treatment.

Since my watch is under my sleeve 99% of the time no one ever sees it so I can’t say I have had any different treatment.

To be honest if I’m in short sleeves the tattoos draw more attention

Every now and then I see sales people look and they usually just comment on how nice my watch is. However, about a week or so ago we were down at Disney and one of my wife’s platinum earring backs broke. While we were out we walked into a jeweler and I just inquired about the cost to replace it and he happens to look at my watch and then said oh, I’ll just give you some and walked over to a case and pulled a pair out and took the backs off and gave them to me. I doubt they would have cost me much anyway, but looking like a warmed over pile of crap from a full day at Disney it was nice of him.

most of the time when i comment on someones watch THEY don't even know what they're wearing (brand aside). So maybe once a year i may have someone comment. I don't run in high end crowds though.

I recently walked into a Rolex AD in the UK to enquire about the wait list for a black steel Sub C. It wasn’t a planned trip, I was in town for something else and spontaneously walked in, I had a long sleeve top on, my watch wasn’t visible and I’m in my 20’s.

As I entered I looked around for the nearest member of staff, there were 3 sales assistants in a circle talking to each other, I could tell it wasn’t work related talk, just gossipy chit chat. As I approach I politely asked about my interest in joining the waiting list for the Submariner and they were very dismissive in their responses, tone and body language. They obviously thought I was just some young dreamer and they wanted to get back to their gossiping.. They ended our conversation by saying “we’re not taking any more names on the waiting list”

I politely said “ok, thank you anyway” and as I was walking away I turned around pulled my sleeve down to reveal a 2017 Day-Date 36 in beautiful shining yellow gold and said “it’s just that I’m after something a little less flashy than my current watch”. In all my years on this earth I have never seen someone’s facial expression change so much. They Immediately offered me a seat, asked me if I wanted any coffee or champagne, I spent about 20 minutes in there trying on a variety of some really nice pieces they did have in stock. They even offered to put me on the Sub list! However in the end I decided I wouldn’t be doing business with them because the whole situation felt so false and two faced.

So in summary, yes, at first I got treated like a peasant and then I got treated like a king simply because they saw what was on my wrist. So in my experience it’s 100% yes people can treat you VERY differently

Nobody cares.

Maybe someone wearing a Patek or Lange will notice and feel a slight blip of superiority over you, but they're almost always too polite to say anything.

Overall, I find very few people notice. If they do, they don't say anything. Since I wear a basic Datejust 116200 maybe fewer people recognize it for what it is. I notice watches when I'm anywhere, because I love them. I occasionally compliment people on them. Often they thank me. If it is an expensive watch, on some occasions they look upset, like they don't want it called attention to. But that is rare.

People notice but people don't care.
The nice watch is yours, it won't make any differences if they treat you better. So why would they.
They treat you nicely maybe just because they happen to be some nice guys

I truly don’t think people even notice, unless it’s extremely flashy. Conventional watches are a thing of the past for the pre-forty crowd.

Impossible to be sure.

And I don’t know how anyone can say that people don’t notice; that’s a ridiculous statement.

I have noticed my A.D. noticing my watches. Usually when I would take a timepiece off to try a display model on. He would sometimes pick mine up out of the tray and give it a good look over. On the last few occasions including my first meet with him I wore JLC watches. Never a Rolex. hehe! At one point he even tried on my JLC deep-sea chronograph. He commented that it was probably a better piece than his Daytona.
He is largely a Rolex and Breitling dealer. However I have received two watches from him within weeks of asking that are lately said to have some people are waiting years. Now did he see the JLC's and think(man this guy is serious about his time pieces) maybe he is trying to talk me into buying more Rolex since he notices I often wear JLC, or was I just lucky?

Or maybe there really isn't a waiting list at all?

I am fairly certain the classy ladies at the strip club would in fact notice a Rolex. Not that they are into money of course......

Yes, especially when I’m in a club ordering bottle service! All eyes on me with either watch I wear.
