Got 12 links now. Looking good. Figuring out the pearl thing. Should have a replacement soon...

1680 is the best daily. Setting the date is a pain otherwise. Love it on the rubber.

Looks like the hands might have been re-lumed with non-luminous lume (if that makes sense ) to match the dial.

Anyway, it's a very nice. Congratulations!

Congrats. Wear it in good health. You should try getting a nice faded insert, they change the look a lot. Just a thought.

Lovely 1680 and the MK1 dial is the one I ended up with after going through a couple of them.
I don't have my red sub anymore but the 1680 white is never leaving.

Enjoy!

Thanks Members !! Did not even know I have a MK I dial. I did find a pearl. My watchmaker says he has one and will install. I will post a photo. I also got a 6xxxxxx green hang tag and a Narrow crown red tag. Also got the proper box. My goal is to save some $$$$ and trade and purchase a Red Sub. Great info here...

I had my watchmaker add a pearl in original bezel insert. I purchased a proper Rolex box and tags. As stated earlier I will wear on the RubberB strap everyday. Thank you TRF members that helped me get to this point !!

Looks good. Is that a lumi pearl?

As for your earlier question about the hands ... have you tried a UV/blacklight to see if they react like the tritium on the dial? That might give you your answer. The hands look a tad lighter, but that doesn't mean they're not original.

You want a mostly consistent reaction under the UV. The tritium shouldn't glow, but should appear white and then nothing when you take the UV away. Here's my 1665 under blacklight.

I did not ask if lumi. He said it was a Rolex replacement pearl. If I take to in sun and then look in dark the pearl glows some, but not extremely bright. The price was great !! He has been my Rolex watchmaker for nearly 30 years. I do not have a blacklight. Thank you

Well, then it's most likely a lumi pearl. Blacklight flashlights are about $10. Always good to have one when you enter the vintage watch world.

Congrats on a nice 1680!

Well I only have one vintage. If I get my friends 1665 Rail dial to rebuild then maybe 2. Thanks for the tip of UV flashlight. Will have to look up how to use...

Define lots of scratches. It is a 43 year old watch.

Scratches are normal for vintage. There is much worse. Plus, its part of their charm.

Wonder if anyone might know which Rolex booklets came with a 1979 1680. I have a era box, crown green tag and narrow crown red tag.

Thank you
